As suspected, the Philadelphia Eagles were up to some roster maneuvering when they released Charley Hughlett earlier this week.
With Hughlett clearing waivers, the team signed Hughlett to their practice squad. They will temporarily elevate him to the game day roster to be their long snapper in Week 18.
The Eagles still have an open roster spot to fill. They could conceivably sign Patrick Johnson or Andre’ Sam — who are both currently out of temporary practice squad elevations (maximum of three times in the regular season) until the playoffs begin and elevation limits don’t exist — to slot in that opening so they can play in Week 18.
Philly will need the extra depth since they’re reportedly resting their starters in Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders. Unlike the preseason, the Eagles don’t have a 90-man roster to work with. But the Eagles will rest their most critical players while giving some depth players a chance to get snaps.
In order to make room for Hughlett on the practice squad, the Eagles released defensive end Titus Leo.
