With the Las Vegas Raiders getting a much-needed loss against the New York Giants on Sunday, let’s check in and see how Week 17 treated a few old friends: Jakobi Meyers, Josh Jacobs and Denico Autry.
Jakobi Meyers
- Game result: 23-17, Jaguars win
- Stats: 6 catches, 39 yards
This was a rather quiet performance from Meyers, who signed a three-year, $60 million contract extension with the Jacksonville Jaguars a couple of weeks ago. However, it was a significant come-from-behind win for the Jags, clinching a playoff berth and entering Week 18 with a chance to win the AFC South by defeating the Tennessee Titans. Jacksonville can also take home the division crown if the Houston Texans lose to the Indianapolis Colts. Meanwhile, Meyers’ yardage total on Sunday seems to have sparked a controversy in the gambling community.
Josh Jacobs
- Game result: 27-41, Packers lose
- Stats: 4 carries, 3 rushing yards, 1 catch, 0 yards
On the other end of the spectrum, the Green Bay Packers cost themselves a chance at winning the NFC North, falling to the Baltimore Ravens by three possessions. That stings even more after the Chicago Bears lost on Sunday Night Football, and this will be a game Jacobs wants to forget. Sunday was only the second time he’s been held below 10 rushing yards in a game during his career. The other instance occurred with the Raiders in 2023, when he had nine carries and negative two yards. Jacobs is battling knee and ankle injuries, though, and hasn’t had more than 12 carries during the Packers’ three-game losing streak. As for the playoffs, Green Bay is locked into the NFC’s seventh seed.
Denico Autry
- Game result: 20-16 Texans win
- Stats: 1 tackle, 1 sack
Autry’s stat line wasn’t impressive, but he would have had two sacks on back-to-back plays had it not been for a tripping penalty that wiped the first one off the board. The second sack helped keep the Chargers off the scoreboard during a red zone trip, as a missed field goal loomed large in a one-possession win for the Houston Texans. That clinched a playoff berth for the Texans, who have a chance at winning the division after starting the season 0-3. Autry has carved out a 12-year career as a quality interior pass-rusher and is still playing well with 2.5 sacks in Houston’s last four games. Not too bad for a 2014 undrafted free agent.
