For the first time ever, the Detroit Lions will be featured live on streaming giant Netflix, as they take on the Minnesota Vikings on Christmas Day at 4:30 p.m. ET. For some, that may be an exciting new platform to catch their favorite team. But for most, I sense, it’s yet another streaming service to subscribe to in order to watch the NFL—certainly an inconvenience for some who may be traveling during the holiday.
Well, there’s good news for those of you in the local metro Detroit area: YOU DON’T NEED TO SUBSCRIBE TO NETFLIX TO WATCH THE GAME. The game is being broadcast locally on CBS Detroit. So if you’re in the area that gets CBS 62—the local Detroit version of CBS—you can watch the game without the worry of another subscription cost, forgotten passwords, or buffering due to Grandma’s poor internet connection.
Another option for the people in the local Detroit market: CBS News has its own app, which will carry the game, as well, as long as you select the Detroit option (and are in the local market).
There is one more option for everyone. If you already subscribe to NFL Plus, they carry all nationally-televised (or streamed) games. So Lions vs. Vikings will be available on that platform as well, no matter where you currently reside. The catch is that it is only available on mobile streaming—meaning you can watch it on your phone or tablet only. If you don’t have Netflix or NFL Plus, a one-month subscription to NFL Plus ($6.99) is slightly cheaper than one month of Netflix ($7.99).
So if you’re morally against football on Netflix or just don’t subscribe to the streaming service, there are still options available for you this Christmas.
