The Los Angeles Rams are in the playoffs for the third straight year and are fighting for the NFC’s top seed with two games to go. There are plenty of things to be grateful for this season, but in the true spirit of Festivus, it is time for the airing of grievances.
Serenity now! Serenity now!
I have (some) problems with this team, and now you’re gonna hear about it! Here are a few of the ways the Rams (and others) have disappointed me this year:
(Not so) special teams
How bad have special teams been for the Rams this year? Bad enough for Sean McVay to finally pull the trigger and fire coordinator Chase Blackburn, marking his first in-season coaching change ever.
Blackburn’s unit helped spark the Seahawks’ insane comeback on Thursday night, highlighted by Rashid Shaheed’s 58-yard punt return.
Los Angeles also ranks 31st in the NFL with a 75% field goal percentage, according to CBS Sports.
It was only a matter of time before a change was made. Not to be a Grinch or anything, but why did it take so long, Sean? Think of how long it took for him to cut ties with Joshua Karty.
Karty had two blocked field goals which contributed to the heartbreaking Week 3 loss to the Eagles. Yet, it took until Week 10 for the Karty Party to mercifully come to an end.
Perhaps McVay is a masochist who enjoys poor special teams play until the suffering was ultimately too much.
Panthers
Matthew Stafford’s blunders aside, how did the Rams ever lose to this team?
It’s a disgrace that the Panthers might end up in the playoffs and host a game as a division champ, despite having no business being there.
This is the same team that:
- Has a -50 point differential
- Has lost five games by at least 10+ points
- Was swept by the bottom-feeding Saints
And now this trash ass team is currently in the NFC South driver’s seat. Yeah, the NFL doesn’t need to change its playoff seeding format whatsoever (INSERT EYE ROLL).
Mike Macdonald’s nerves of steal
That line from “Anchorman” sums up exactly how Rams fans feel about Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald after TNF.
Not many coaches would’ve had the guts to go for two with not only the game on the line, but the NFC West and the conference’s top seed as well.
Respect.
Just don’t pull that crap again, Macdonald, or you’re never welcome in Hollywood again. No In-N-Out for you!
Puka Nacua’s recent behavior
Puka Nacua sure had a busy week, and he might just be fast-tracking the Antonio Brown career arc.
Nacua first got himself into hot water for doing an antisemitic gesture on a livestream with Adin Ross, later apologizing for his actions.
During that livestream, he dropped this doozy of a line: “I also believe that concussions are all in your head, you just can’t think about it.”
Technically, I suppose he’s right about concussions being in your head, but still. What an idiotic thing to say, given everything we know about the NFL’s concussion conundrum. Sounds like a person looking to get a job with RFK Jr. someday.
Then, the league fined Puka $25,000 for criticizing officiating on the livestream and doubling down after the Seattle game.
Nacua went from being one of the league’s most likable personalities to one of its biggest dopes in a week. It seems like he needs someone like a Cooper Kupp in his corner to guide him, along with serving as his brain-to-mouth filter.
He keeps this charade up, and he’ll quickly be one of the NFL’s most unlikable players. Do you really want to follow in Aaron Rodgers’ post-2020 footsteps, buddy?
NFL officiating
Do I really need to explain this one?
How is it possible for NFL officiating to get worse each year? Sometimes, I wonder if ChatGPT would be any better.
AI has already done commercial work and is getting into acting, so why not embark on a new career?
San Francisco 49ers
You really didn’t think I’d forgot them, right?
But for real, why can’t this team just roll over and die so the rest of us can be happy? Injuries have wrecked the Niners in the past, yet this season is somehow the exception. Not that any of us want injuries to occur, even to our most hated foes.
However, it feels unfair that the 49ers are back in playoff contention again, despite it all.
And worse yet, former Patriots castoff Mac Jones played well enough to keep the team in contention, along with beating the Rams in the first matchup. UGH!
At least we will always have the 42-26 drubbing on the Whiners’ turf.
(Ahem)
Happy holidays Turf Show Ramily and Merry Festivus! If you have any grievances to air of your own, drop them in the comments.
