Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …
NFL Week 15: Biggest questions, takeaways for every game – ESPN
Have quarterback Jalen Hurts and the offense found their footing? It’s hard to get carried away given the quality of the opponent, but Hurts’ three-touchdown outing was exactly the type of performance needed following a five-turnover game against the Chargers. The coaching staff fed running back Saquon Barkley to strike a nice balance between the run and pass. And the Eagles showed some creativity near the goal line in particular, resulting in a pair of Dallas Goedert scores. It was a healthy step in the right direction for a quarterback and an offense that haven’t lived up to expectations for much of the season.
Perhaps just as important as Hurts’ response, there were a few key differences from how 27-year-old operated within the scheme to note as well. The Eagles deployed a higher rate of under-center formations, particularly on early downs, and found success running out of those looks in the second half against a Raiders defense that came into the game ranked 19th in defensive DVOA, 22nd in EPA/play and 25th in defensive success rate. Saquon Barkley had 78 rushing yards, 49 of which came from under center looks, crediting Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo for staying with the run even after a few stagnant attempts early in the game. “I’ve got to give credit for KP and those guys for sticking with it,” Barkley said. “We had some negative runs, but I felt like that helped. Even though we had some negative runs, some muddy runs, sticking with it and letting us get rolling, I think it helped the offense today.” Hurts also had key contributions to the run game. He had five designed runs, including one on the Eagles’ opening drive that went for nine yards on third-and-4. Hurts’ athleticism was also a big part of a handful of run-pass (or run-pass-run) option plays that got him out in space with the choice to either take off or hit a receiver for an underneath completion. It wasn’t without risk — Hurts got up slowly from an awkward tackle on the play before his final pass to Brown in the end zone — but offered a dynamic seldom seen from the offense this season with Hurts’ running ability more consistently leveraged in the pass game.
Eagles won’t face Jayden Daniels this season; Marcus Mariota to start against Philly – BGN
The Philadelphia Eagles won’t be facing Jayden Daniels when they play the Washington Commanders in two of the final three weeks of the 2025 regular season. Having been officially eliminated from playoff contention, the Commanders are reportedly shutting Daniels down. Former Eagles backup quarterback Marcus Mariota will be Washington’s signal caller the rest of the way. Honestly, it’s a smart move by the Commanders. Daniels has battled through multiple injury issues this season and he got banged up again when he needlessly returned to action in Week 14. Washington would be kicking themselves if Daniels suffered yet another injury down the stretch in 2025, especially if the recovery carried over into the 2026 season. Also, it’s not like Mariota is a massive downgrade from this year’s version of Daniels.
The only defensive player remaining from the Philadelphia Eagles’ last shutout, in December 2018, is Brandon Graham. He was not on the team when the Eagles last held an opponent to fewer than 75 yards, in 1955 — even if it seems he’s always been on the Eagles. Graham, who came out of retirement earlier this year, led the Eagles with two sacks in the defense’s dominant performance against the overmatched Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday. The 37-year-old, 16-year veteran has played more games than any other player in franchise history. He had no shortage of post-career opportunities, but he felt he still had something to offer — in the locker room and on the field. “It was cool to go out there and make a play, because it’s been a while,” Graham, who played only seven snaps at defensive tackle, told reporters. “Been out here for five weeks now, I feel like training camp is over, I feel like myself now.”
A Winning Formula – Iggles Blitz
Making this stretch of defense all the more impressive is the fact Jalen Carter has missed the last two games and wasn’t healthy for the Bears game. He is still the best player on the defense. If he gets right and comes back in a week or two, it will make the defense even better.cI’m not saying the defense is as good as last year and will lead the team back to the Super Bowl. They are coming together in a big way and have the potential to help the Eagles on a postseason run. The defense will need help from the offense. One of the keys last year is that the offense sustained drives and kept the defense off the field. The defense faced the fewest plays in the league last year with only 999. This year’s defense has already been on the field for 893 plays and there are three games left.
In Roob’s Stats: A bonus edition focused on Eagles’ historic defense performance – NBCSP
We have to start off with 75 yards, which is all the Raiders managed against the Eagles. That’s the 8th-fewest yards against the Eagles in their 93-year history but the fewest in 70 years, since Dec. 4, 1955, when the Eagles held quarterback Ogden Compton and the Chicago Cardinals to just 49 yards in a 27-3 win at Connie Mack Stadium – one net passing yard and 48 rushing yards. It’s also the 10th-fewest yards any team has gained in a game since 1992. It was the Raiders’ 2nd-fewest yards ever, their fewest since they had 58 in a 41-10 loss to the Chargers at Candlestick Park in 1961. The Eagles held the Raiders to 1.8 yards per play, 3rd-lowest in franchise history and lowest in 33 years, since they held Stan Gelbaugh and the Seahawks to 1.45 yards per play – 87 yards on 60 plays – in a 20-17 win at the Kingdome.
Spadaro: Britain Covey recalls ‘wild’ journey back to Eagles – PE.com
Now he’s on the 53-man roster here and Covey is making waves. He averaged 18 yards on three punt returns on Monday night against the Chargers and also has given the Eagles positive field position in the kickoff return game. “It’s been wild. I mean, wild,” he said. “It took me three years to break the wide receiver rotation and when I finally started to feel I was one of the four main guys, I was injured. It was really tough, really hard. Working all the way back through it gave me an appreciation and a vigor that I haven’t felt since my rookie season. I feel like I’m the best player I’ve ever been.”
Clyde Simmons, the defensive line coach at Bowling Green, doesn’t have much time to keep tabs on the Eagles. But even in the limited games he has watched, Carter has stood out. “I know they’ve got a couple good players in there, like a Jalen Carter, who is such a big man, and so explosive, and a game-controlling guy,” Simmons said last month. “He’s special. You don’t see a lot of people that big, who are that explosive.” “He plays on the other side of the line [of scrimmage],” Golic added. “I mean, he just plays with leverage, with strength. You know, and the ends were bigger at that point. Reggie [White] was 315 pounds, Clyde was 290 pounds, Jerome was 300, I was in the 280s, 290, so was Mike Pitts. “Jalen [Carter] is a 300-pounder who is quick off the ball and plays on the other side of the line. That’s what we always did. We always played on the other side of the line. And he would have, jeez … I mean, put him on that line, with Jerome [Brown] in the middle, would have been ridiculous. “If there’s one player on that defense that would have fit in our defense, it definitely would have been Jalen [Carter].”
Las Vegas Raiders historically bad vs. Philadelphia Eagles – Silver And Black Pride
On what I imagine was a sunny day on October 22nd, 1961 the Raiders managed a grand total of 58 yards vs the Chargers. On a cold December 14th, 2025 the Raiders managed 75 yards vs the Eagles, the lowest since 1961 and the 31st lowest in an NFL game ever. They join the October 19th, 2025 Las Vegas Raiders who also lost 31-0 to a defending super bowl team on the road, as just the fourth franchise in history to have a team with two of the top 35 lowest NFL single game yardages in history. They become the first franchise to do this since 2000 which includes two winless teams. The 2025 Raiders have had the 31st and 35th lowest single game yardages in NFL history in one single season, and they’ve done that with the oldest head coach in NFL history. In addition, the Raiders averaged just 1.8 yards per play is the 5th worst single game yards/play since 2010 and the 31st worst in NFL history. The Raiders were also outgained by 312 yards vs the Eagles, the worst of their season and the 46th worst single game. The Raiders are on pace for a -191 point differential this season, which would be the 12th worst since 2000 and 43rd worst single season point differential in NFL history.
10 thoughts on the Cowboys devastating 34-26 loss to the Vikings – Blogging The Boys
Another no-show for Pickens. If you thought George Pickens’ five-catch, 37-yard performance last week was disappointing, you were in for an unpleasant encore performance this week. Against the Vikings, Pickens finished with only three catches for 33 yards. For some reason, the team’s exciting No. 2 receiver was a non-factor for the second-straight game. This offense was a lot more fun when they had two star receivers running around, but that wasn’t the case on Sunday night.
Commanders Vs. Giants (Game Two) – Studs and Duds – Hogs Haven
Josh Conerly: The rookie had a HORRID start to the game, collecting two penalties on the Commanders opening drive and giving up a strip-sack on Washington’s next offensive possession. He allowed multiple pressures and quarterback hits on the afternoon. It was a HUGE step backwards for a guy who had been paying pretty well over the last five games. [BLG Note: Jaelan Phillips going up Conerly should be a huge mismatch in the Eagles’ favor.]
Are NY Giants set up for success after the 2025 season? NFL experts weigh in – Big Blue View
The New York Giants are finishing yet another season gone wrong. They have fired the head coach and defensive coordinator. They might yet decide to replace the general manager. As they head toward an offseason with major decisions to make about their future, they appear to believe at least two things. 1) They have more talent than a 2-12 record would indicate. Coaching has been the primary issue. 2) In Jaxson Dart, they have a quarterback to build around. Are the Giants right? What do others in and around the game think. We surveyed executives, people who have worked in the league, and a number of SB Nation writers for opposing teams to get their opinion of a variety of questions regarding the Giants. Their answers are below.
NFL mock draft 2026: 3 QBs go in updated first-round projection, including No. 1 overall – SB Nation
With just three weeks remaining in the 2025 NFL season, and the Conference Championship games behind us at the college level, the 2026 NFL Draft picture is coming into focus. As things stand right now, the New York Giants have the first overall selection, followed by the Las Vegas Raiders, the Tennessee Titans, and the Cleveland Browns. That could make for a fascinating start to the draft. While the order could change between now and next spring, here is the latest SB Nation mock draft looking at how the first round could play out, with some thoughts on the picks in the top ten to follow.
The Arizona Cardinals are putting the finishing touches on their third consecutive losing season under coach Jonathan Gannon, putting the 42-year-old squarely on the hot seat. Asked on Monday what his “pitch” would be to owner Michael Bidwill to keep his job another year, Gannon said there “is no pitch,” then later slightly revised his comment. “I believe in myself, and I believe in our team,” Gannon said when asked about retaining his position, per the team’s official website. “We are at a dip right now. We’re going through some adversity, but I do believe in us and we will get out of the dip.”
