The New York Giants on Thursday claimed wide receiver Ryan Miller off waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Miller, is a 6-foot-2, 221-pound receiver who played college football at Furman. He has two receptions for 34 yards in 13 games this season. In 25 career games, he has 14 receptions, with three of those for touchdowns.
Miller has been a core special teams player for the Buccaneers, playing 60% of Tampa Bay’s special teams snaps this season.
No corresponding roster move was announced. The Giants, though, do have wide receiver/kick returner Gunner Olszewski in the concussion protocol after a vicious helmet-to-helmet hit Week 13 against the New England Patriots.
In that Week 13 game, the Giants surrendered a 94-yard punt return for a touchdown and had one of their worst special teams performances of the season.
Miller was waived this week when the Buccaneers got receivers Mike Evans and Jalen McMillan back from injured reserve.
The Giants seem poised to make a number of roster moves before Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders. Injuries to Olszewski, punter Jame Gillan, and edge defender Kayvon Thibodeaux might necessitate moves.
The Giants this week opened the 21-day practice windows for four players — offensive lineman Josh Ezeudu, cornerback Art Green, linebacker Darius Muasau, and wide receiver Beaux Collins.
