Giants news, 12/10: Mike Kafka, Jermaine Eluemunor, Carl Banks, more

Good morning, New York Giants fans!

From Big Blue View

Other Giant observations

Giants’ Robinson, Eluemunor and Flott set for big pay days | ESPN.com

The finish line is in sight for the Giants’ top free agents. Players such as wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson, right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor and cornerback Cor’Dale Flott are just four games away from maximizing their value on the open market.

Robinson, Eluemunor and Flott all are having their best seasons during their contract years. It makes for some tough decisions for the Giants and Schoen, should he stick around despite another difficult season. It probably wouldn’t hurt if Schoen remains. He brought all three players to the Giants — Robinson and Flott in the second and third rounds, respectively, of the 2022 NFL draft and Eluemunor as a free agent in 2024.

Firing Schoen would have significant ripple effects for the Giants’ coaching search, which is already underway. As co-owner John Mara battles cancer, he and Steve Tisch would need to determine who can oversee twin searches for a new GM and coach.

The decision about keeping or firing Schoen surely would impact the scope and quality of the Giants’ coaching search. Obviously, someone will want the job, if only because of Dart. But does every sought-after candidate really want to work for a hot-seat GM like Schoen? Probably not.

Jaxson Dart-Joe Schoen connection sits at center of what comes next for Giants | New York Post

It is forever going to be there, a part of whatever legacy Jaxson Dart forges with the Giants. A winning legacy, a legacy tinged with frustration. A legacy of greatness or a legacy of unfulfilled expectation. It is always going to be there, no matter what Dart’s résumé eventually looks like.

“He’s the one who drafted me so I definitely have a great relationship with Joe,” Dart recently said.

Most shocking statistical ranking: 32nd in yards per rush allowed. So maybe it’s not stunning the Giants are last in this category. They have struggled to stop the run for three straight years. But this bad? The Giants are allowing a staggering 5.78 yards per rush this season, which is on pace to allow the most yards per rush of any team over at least the past 90 years. You have to go back to 1950 when the New York Yanks allowed 5.63 yards per rush to find their nearest competition.

2026 NFL draft: New York Giants are statistically unlikely to land No. 1 pick | USAToday.com

The Giants are projected to have just a nine percent chance of selecting No. 1 overall. Their chances get better for a top-5 pick (53 percent), and they have a 99 percent shot of drafting in the top-10 for the 10th time since 2016.

The projection has the Las Vegas Raiders with the best chance of drafting first overall (44 percent), followed by the Tennessee Titans (21 percent), the New York Jets (11 percent), and the Giants (9 percent). In this model, the Giants are projected to select fifth overall, with the Cleveland Browns leapfrogging them for the No. 4 spot.

2026 NFL Mock Draft, top 10 picks: Fernando Mendoza at No. 1, Jeremiyah Love to Vikings | The Athletic

5. New York Giants: Spencer Fano, OT, Utah. Fano is the hammer and leader of the Power 4’s best run game. Fano is an elite athlete at 6 feet 6, 302 pounds. His movement skills as a puller, climber and screener remind me a bit of Detroit Lions star offensive tackle Penei Sewell, albeit in a lighter package. A dominant right tackle at Utah, Fano has the tools to play either side in the future and probably even guard if he’s ever needed there. Coming out of Week 14, the Giants tentatively hold the No. 1 pick. If they stay there, it could be a jackpot trade-down situation.

There’s no doubt the Giants’ baby boom has played a big part in unifying the locker room, even beyond the offensive line room. Members of the secondary and defensive line have also added new members to their families this year, with the franchise welcoming enough little ones this season to field its own Pee Wee football team.

“I’ve never seen it before,” said right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor, who welcomed his second child during training camp. “I’ve talked to (Dexter Lawrence, who recently became a first-time father) about it. Obviously, we talk about it in the O-line room all the time because we’re a tight group. It’s really unique, because I’ve never been on a team where everyone is expecting a baby. So, people are just out now and then, because they’re having a baby, which is crazy to me.”

Dan Quinn: No long-term concerns for Jayden Daniels’ elbow injury | Hogs Haven

Jayden Daniels returned after missing the last three games due to a left elbow dislocation. He left the game and didn’t return after getting shoved to the ground and landing on his injured arm while pursuing a defender who just picked off his tipped pass. Quinn said that he could have gone back in the game, but he was held out as a precaution. There is no long-term damage to the elbow, just soreness. Quinn wouldn’t give an update for his game status for next week.

Final thoughts | Quinn confirms Zach Ertz suffered season-ending ACL tear | Commanders.com

There have been several differences in the Commanders’ 2024 and 2025 seasons, but one of the biggest has been the amount of noncompetitive losses. The Commanders have now lost five games by at least 20 points. Quinn said it was “a big topic” for him.

“Not finding that rhythm together and not forcing someone else to get out of theirs is a big part of that. Sometimes you feel, okay, it’s tighter and the margins get even smaller and you can feel yourself not making the plays that you need to go make … It’s one that I’m digging in hard on, obviously to find why, to make sure that our cause together to make sure like that we are never in this situation again.”
