Eagles’ Sirianni: Hurts ‘absolutely’ to start at QB vs. Raiders – ESPN
Eagles coach Nick Sirianni said quarterback Jalen Hurts is “absolutely” his starter for Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders and called it “ridiculous” when asked about the possibility of making a change at some point this season if Hurts continues to struggle. “No, I think that’s ridiculous,” he said during his weekly radio appearance on 94 WIP in Philadelphia on Wednesday. “I know every time I go out on that field with Jalen Hurts as our quarterback, we have a chance to win the game. That’s something that’s been proven. We’ve won a lot of football games. “This is the most ultimate team game. You win together as a team, you lose together as a team. It’s never just one thing.” Hurts threw four interceptions, including the game-sealer near the goal line in overtime, and had five giveaways in all during Monday’s night’s 22-19 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.
But Hurts’ imperfections as a dropback passer were again glaring. He threw over and behind his intended targets. He made the wrong reads and missed receivers either schemed open downfield or on check downs. He was in a fog and couldn’t see the field, especially over the middle. There were some good moments, no doubt. But not close to enough. It seems unimaginable that Eagles coach Nick Sirianni would consider benching Hurts for backup Tanner McKee. Opening that can of worms may cause more harm than good — especially in the long-term — but the idea has some merit.
Eagles-Chargers Film Review: Weirdly, there were some positive signs on offense – BGN
This one might surprise you, but I’m going to focus on some more of the positives this week. I’ve been highly critical of this offense all season long, but weirdly, there were some positive signs to cling to this week. I can’t be bothered to write about the same rubbish stuff we have seen all season long. Let’s try to look at what has changed and what remains the same. At times, this one contained the worst version of Jalen Hurts we’ve seen in years, and it was a reminder that when this offense is bad, it is catastrophically bad. But there was some stuff I liked about this performance.

OK, we put this off long enough. Let’s get to the Jalen Hurts stats. This is going to be painful: 10A. Hurts on Monday became the first Eagles quarterback in 28 years to commit five turnovers in a game. In 1997, in a 31-21 loss to the Giants at the Vet, Bobby Hoying was intercepted three times and lost two fumbles. That was Hoying’s fourth career start and his first career loss. 10B. Hurts became the first Eagles QB to throw four interceptions in a game since Michael Vick in the 2012 opener in Cleveland, a 17-16 win over the Browns in which Brandon Weeden also threw four interceptions. 10C. Hurts is the first Eagles QB to throw four INTs without a touchdown pass since 1991, when undrafted rookie Brad Goebel did it in a 13-6 loss to the Saints at the Vet. That was his second career start. 10D. Hurts’ overtime interception was the Eagles’ first overtime turnover since Mike McMahon fumbled when he was sacked by Osi Umenyiora in the Giants’ 26-23 win over the Eagles at the Linc in 2005. It was the Eagles’ first overtime interception since Tony Parrish picked off Donovan McNabb in the 49ers’ 31-28 win at the Linc in 2003. And it was the Eagles’ first game-ending turnover in overtime since Michael Strahan’s 44-yard pick-6 off Doug Pederson at the Vet in 1999.

And finally, on INT No. 4, the game-sealer in overtime, Hurts tried to make a tight window throw to Jahan Dotson, but Hart made an outstanding play to fall back into coverage and get and hand on the pass, while Tony Jefferson was able to reach out with one hand and corral the pick. That was a good play by Khalil Mack to read that Hurts was keeping the ball on the read option, and apply pressure on Hurts. And obviously, that is a great play by the two defensive backs. It’s probably worth noting that Hurts could have had a fifth INT on an overthrow, but the ball found its way through safety RJ Mickens’ forearms and hit the ground on his diving INT attempt. The Chargers’ defense made a lot of great plays in this game. But this was also a disaster of a game by Hurts, who was given all kinds of opportunities to put the ball in the end zone, but couldn’t break through.
In Hurts’ 88 games as the Eagles’ starter, only four were worse in terms of EPA/dropback than Monday night. And of those four, only one (the Eagles’ Week 18 loss to the Giants at the end of the 2023 season) has come since 2022. In terms of success rate, Hurts’ performance against the Chargers tied the Eagles’ win against the Green Bay Packers last month for his worst this season with only three career starts prior to this year sitting below the 33% mark he managed. The sting Hurts alluded to was illustrated a few moments before he took the podium, with a wry smile during a conversation with Eagles wide receiver coach Aaron Moorehead. Many will place the blame for the Eagles’ offensive struggles Monday night at the quarterback’s feet — justifiably so — and Hurts’ postgame comments didn’t want for anything different. “The ‘We,’ I look at it, it’s ‘I,’” Hurts said. “It starts with me and how I play. How I lead and just my ability to go out there and figure it out. There’s no excuses. … I have to find a way to win.” It’s fair to characterize Hurts’ performance as somewhat uncharacteristic. The 27-year-old has thrown multiple interceptions just 10 times in his career and had never thrown four in one game prior to Monday night. Still, Hurts’ struggles to protect the football against the Chargers are symptomatic of the disjointed nature of the Eagles passing game in general this year. Hurts’ first pick came on an ill-advised throw to A.J. Brown in the underneath middle part of the field, a decision that did not account for Chargers defensive tackle Da’Shawn Hand dropping into coverage on a simulated pressure look from L.A.
Finding Positives – Iggles Blitz
Just to be clear, I’m not delusional. The Eagles turned the ball over 5 times, missed a FG and had some costly penalties. There were dropped passes and even some mistakes on defense. The Eagles played well enough to lose a close game. That’s not the goal for anyone. I understand people who want to vent and rant, but you have to get past that. Yelling doesn’t solve problems. If the Eagles could clean up a handful of plays, they win that game. The team has now been sloppy for three straight weeks. Nick Sirianni has got to keep searching for the right message that will get them to relax and play good football. Smart football. The schedule lightens up for the next couple of weeks, but the team has used up their margin for error so they can’t afford to overlook anyone or be overconfident.

T-4th) With their most recent playoff exit top of mind, the Los Angeles Rams completely wrecked the Eagles for two quarters, holding the reigning Super Bowl champions to a putrid 33 total yards. The destruction continued early in the third, with the Los Angeles offense capitalizing on the extremely short field created by a Jared Verse strip-sack of Jalen Hurts to build a 26-7 lead. As my colleague and Rams radio color analyst Maurice Jones-Drew described the scene to me later: “The Linc was shook.” Then, little by little, it was like the Eagles remembered they were supposed to be one of the most balanced and talented teams in the NFL. Hurts went on an absolute tear in the second half to obliterate the Rams’ 19-point lead. The comeback was cemented with a pair of field-goal blocks, one by Jalen Carter and the second by Jordan Davis, setting up one of the most indelible images of the season: Davis, at 336 pounds, rumbling 61 yards on the return for a touchdown as time expired. Since then, the Eagles have only gotten less reliable, while the Rams have mostly sparkled, making Philly’s theft here that much more impressive.

Philadelphia Eagles: The Eagles’ struggles look like they are, for the most part, centered on an inability to create the sort of identity they had last year on offense. They aren’t dominating the line of scrimmage like they did, leaving the run game less effective, and putting more on Jalen Hurts to carry the team. That said, the defense is still playing well, giving Philly a chance to advance in the NFC bracket.

9) The Eagles’ offensive line didn’t create many running lanes for Saquon Barkley in Week 14, and none of Philadelphia’s starters earned 65.0-plus PFF overall grades. Still, there were positives for the unit in the loss to the Chargers. Right guard Tyler Steen stood out with his pass blocking, despite struggling in the ground game. Steen allowed no pressure against the Chargers, and his 88.9 PFF pass-blocking grade ranked first among all guards in Week 14. […] 31) Las Vegas Raiders (Up 1). The Raiders had a difficult time against the Broncos, yielding 11 pressures — including three sacks and one quarterback hit — on 38 dropbacks. The offensive line’s 81.6 PFF pass-blocking efficiency rating ranked only 22nd in Week 14. The main culprit was left tackle Stone Forsythe, who gave up six pressures, including two sacks. Consequently, he earned a 42.9 PFF pass-blocking grade.

On a recent Friday afternoon, Eagles standouts Jordan Davis and Nakobe Dean made the trip to Lincoln Financial Field to meet with a special group of people. Davis and Dean participated in an hour-long workshop with Ordinarie Heroes, a local organization focused on enhancing the development of youth. In addition to the event, the Eagles will donate $35,000 to Ordinarie Heroes through the team’s 2025 A Fan of Change Fund. “Ordinarie Heroes is a local nonprofit whose missions is to create a holistic ecosystem for young people that provides access to leadership development, mental health support, and other essential resources,” said the organization’s Executive Director Ron Toles, who pointed out that the “IE” in the name means “I’m enough.”
Las Vegas Raiders CB Kyu Blu Kelly out for the season – Silver And Black Pride
The Las Vegas Raiders are 2-11 and have the 1st pick in the draft in their sights. Injuries have been an issue for the team all season, with the two starters on IR, the offensive line, and now it is leaking to the defense. Kyu Blu Kelly started the season as a cornerback opposite Eric Stokes. There have been ups and downs for Blu Kelly, but he has recorded three interceptions, but Rookie Darien Porter was beginning to eat into his snaps. However, Blu Kelly’s last snap of 2025 came against the Denver Broncos. He suffered a brutal injury to his leg, which required him to be carted off the field. On Tuesday, he was ruled out for the season after rupturing his patellar tendon in his left knee.
OG Mekhi Becton. Becton had one of his worst games in a Chargers uniform on Monday night and it came without having to face Eagles star defensive tackle Jalen Carter. He tied with right tackle Bobby Hart with eight pressures allowed on the night while allowing one of nine sacks of Herbert. With each weeks comes another wildly underwhelming performance by one of the Chargers most notable free agent signings this offseason. Becton is currently ranked 77th out of 80 qualifying offensive guards by Pro Football Focus and has been close to abysmal as a run blocker on top of it all.
RB Jaydon Blue. Jaydon Blue was a fifth-round draft pick for the Cowboys this year and arrived in Dallas with some pretty high expectations. He was expected to provide an explosive element to the offense as both a runner and receiver, but that has sadly never materialized. Instead, he’s been a healthy scratch the majority of the season, suiting up only four times so far this year. To date he’s rushed for only 65 yards on 22 carries and has added only one catch for five yards through the air. That’s nowhere near the production many expected from him. The rookie out of Texas was expected to be heavily involved in the Cowboys offense this year. Many expected him to challenge for the lead back, but instead he’s continued to tumble down the depth chart as the season progressed. We’ve seen Malik Davis get re-signed and lock down the RB2 position behind Javonte Williams and the recent addition of Israel Abanikanda is further proof Blue is in the doghouse. A once bright future now seems murky at best unless something changes dramatically.
Washington Commanders Roster Moves: Zach Ertz to IR; RB signed from practice squad – Hogs Haven
The Washington Commanders have placed another starter on injured reserve. Zach Ertz suffered a torn ACL in last week’s shutout loss, and will miss the final four games. He is a pending free agent, but at 35 years-old, could call it a career after a major injury late in his 13th season. Dan Quinn confirmed the injury on Monday, and the team has now made it official. Ertz joined the Commanders last year, and played in 33 games, including three in the playoffs last season.
NY Giants bring back player Philadelphia Eagles stole a few weeks ago – Big Blue View
Xavier Gipson is reportedly back with the New York Giants, the latest chapter in a rollercoaster season for the 24-year-old wide receiver/return man. Gipson is signing to the Giants practice squad, per Art Stapleton. If the name rings a bell for Giants fans, there is a reason. The New York Jets cut Gipson after he fumbled a kickoff in a 34-32 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 1. The Giants claimed him off waivers. A week later, the Giants waived Gipson in an effort to pass him through to their practice squad. The Philadelphia Eagles, however, claimed him.
The potential of a Philip Rivers NFL comeback is one of the best stories in football in a long time. Rivers signed to with the Colts practice squad on Tuesday, and remarkably there’s a very real chance he could start on Sunday against the Seahawks in an effort to save Indianapolis’ season. One fascinating wrinkle emerged on Tuesday that actually pieces this all together in a fascinating way: Rivers knows the offense from coaching his son’s high school team.
