Good morning, New York Giants fans!

Winston suggested the Giants will bless their fans with wins for Christmas.
“I heard there’s a possibility that the East Coast is going to experience one of the coldest winters we’ve had. The New York Football Giants have a possibility to win four games in a row after this bye,” he said.

Rookie tight end Thomas Fidone II is done for the season because he had surgery for a sprain in between his first and second metatarsal on his left foot. Fidone, 23, had a screw put in for an injury that sounds like a much less serious Lisfranc-type injury than what linebacker Micah McFadden sustained this season.
Fidone’s injury was something he initially was able to play through but that kept getting worse. He had the option of rehabbing it without surgery, but he got multiple medical opinions, and he preferred to just take care of the lingering issue now so he could reduce the chances of it jeopardizing his availability for next season.

Darius Alexander’s Development. Third-round pick Darius Alexander, who got off to a slow start due to his having missed all of the spring and some of the summer, is being counted on to become the Robin to Lawrence’s Batman moving forward. The youngster out of Toledo has been in on 81 run defensive snaps this season, posting 13 total tackles and three tackles for a loss. That needs to improve.
Perhaps with a full offseason of NFL-quality weight training and the chance to start over in a defensive scheme that has to be better than what former defensive coordinator Shane Bowen ran, maybe come this time next year, we’ll be talking about how this rookie defender is among the most improved players on the team.
If they lose out, they almost certainly will. (They’ve picked first just twice, in 1951 and 1965.) That’s because their strength of schedule right now (using every opponent they have or will face this year) is .537, while the Raiders are at .551 and the Titans are at .571.
The Giants close with the 3-10 Commanders, 5-8 Vikings, 2-11 Raiders and 6-6-1 Cowboys. Of course, because their remaining schedule is so weak, there’s always a chance they could beat, say, Washington and/or Las Vegas. Which would probably crush their chances of picking first. The Giants-Raiders Week 17 game in Las Vegas clearly looms large for draft position, especially since the Raiders need a quarterback.

Expect these assistant coaches to garner serious looks in the upcoming coaching cycle: Chiefs OC Matt Nagy, 49ers DC Robert Saleh, Colts DC Lou Anarumo, Broncos DC Vance Joseph, Dolphins DC Anthony Weaver, Seahawks OC Klint Kubiak, Rams DC Chris Shula, Commanders OC Kliff Kingsbury, Packers DC Jeff Hafley, Bills OC Joe Brady and Jags DC Anthony Campanile.
Since 2011, at least five head-coaching vacancies have popped up each cycle. Right now? Only two teams have openings: the Giants and Titans. That number will go up. There are no guarantees these jobs will come open, but many around the league are asking questions about the Atlanta Falcons, Cleveland Browns, Arizona Cardinals and Cincinnati Bengals, in addition to the Raiders. Coaches have about a month left, maybe through the playoffs, to prove they can handle the big seat.

9. *TRADE* NEW YORK GIANTS (VIA ATL, LAR): WR CARNELL TATE, OHIO STATE. Outside of limited snaps in the Grambling game early in the year, Tate doesn’t have a single-game receiving grade below 72.0. He’s as consistent as they come with refined route running and strong hands, and his addition would form an outstanding duo with Malik Nabers in New York.
This week’s opponent
The Washington Commanders were blanked by the Minnesota Vikings 31-0. Their 31-point shutout loss is by far their worst loss of the season, and it comes at a time when Washington exThe Vikings obliterated any and all optimism that people may have had for the remainder of the season. Adding insult to injury, it appears that Zach Ertz may have been lost for the season due to a knee injury. The Commanders failed to pass for 100 yards on the day, and between Jayden Daniels and Marcus Mariota, each threw one interception. While the run game showed plenty of life against the Vikings, they only rushed the ball 17 times between Chris Rodriguez and Jacory Croskey-Merritt.
Commanders head coach Dan Quinn said on Sunday that “the early signals aren’t good” about tight end Zach Ertz’s knee injury and further tests confirmed the team’s fears about the nature of the injury.
Quinn said at his Monday press conference that Ertz suffered a torn ACL. He will have surgery to repair the injury and will miss the rest of the season. Ertz signed a one-year contract with the Commanders for this season. If he plays in 2026, it will be his 14th NFL season.

The Commanders’ pass coverage was horrendous and allowed McCarthy to gain momentum early. The Vikings quarterback has had more issues versus man coverage but faced heavy zone from the Commanders — mostly out of necessity without enough good man corners. That allowed for a lot of open targets, especially since Washington’s pass rush couldn’t threaten him. They allowed three touchdown passes to McCarthy and a 98-yard touchdown drive.
