We’re through the first quarter of play at U.S. Bank Stadium, and your Minnesota Vikings lead the Washington Commanders by a score of 7-0.
The Vikings won the toss, and rather than defer to the second half, decided that they wanted the football first. A nice return from Myles Price set them up near their own 40-yard line to start things off, and from there the Vikings marched the ball right down the field and into the end zone. J.J. McCarthy went 4-for-4 on the drive, including the capper, an 18-yard strike to Josh Oliver to give the Vikings their first touchdown since the fourth quarter of Week 11 and an early 7-0 lead.
The Commanders then took over and pushed all the way down to the Vikings’ 1-yard line, where they faced a 4th-and-goal situation. Jayden Daniels fired a pass to Deebo Samuel in the end zone, and he couldn’t hold on with the pass falling incomplete, forcing a turnover on downs. The Commanders didn’t face a lot of resistance on the way to the red zone, so the Vikings caught a bit of a break with the drop.
That was pretty much it for the first quarter, folks. As we move to the second quarter, the Vikings are currently looking at a 2nd-and-8 from their own 15-yard line.
