Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …
What I’m hearing on Tom Brady’s Raiders rut and the startup that could save the Colts – The Athletic
The Eagles are trying to shake off that ugly Black Friday loss to the Bears. I’m told this week, the team had a series of “no-BS discussions” ahead of a “Monday Night Football” meeting with the Los Angeles Chargers. The message? Stop pointing fingers. “We are all done with the finger-pointing,” one Philly player told me. “It’s not just one thing that’s in our way. It’s not just Jalen (Hurts), it’s not just Saquon (Barkley), it’s not just (OC Kevin) Patullo, it’s not just the offensive line. … It’s a little bit of everyone.”
NFL Week 14 betting advice: Eagles-Chargers pick and prop bets – BGN
Even if Herbert starts and plays all four quarters, ball security remains a major concern. The Chargers have struggled to protect their quarterback all season and rank near the bottom of the NFL in sacks allowed. The Eagles remain one of the better teams in the league in turnover differential, ranking 9th, and they also own the stronger overall team DVOA at 11th compared to the Chargers at 17th. This also sets up as a strong buy-low spot-on Philadelphia after back-to-back losses. Take the Eagles at -2.5, and under 41.5 in what profiles as a lower-scoring game.
Jalen Hurts reveals why looking to the past can help him in the present – NBCSP
Hurts was asked what he took out of the Bears game, but he answered as he often does by skipping over the micro question and giving a macro answer. “You asked me about last game, but it’s not just the last game I’ve watched,” he said. “It’s going back and watching a ton of different things. Years, games from the season, the rhythm, the sequencing, the structure that we had and how organized we were. “That’s something that’s normal for me. It’s something that’s normal for me. It’s not the first time that I’ve done that. Honestly, it’s something that I do often, just a matter of reflecting and seeing, ‘OK, how were things (then) and how are things now?’” Hurts has had success every step of his career to draw from, and he even alluded to going back and learning from high school football in Texas, when his dad was his coach. How can watching film of himself playing under different coaches with different teammates in different schemes help Hurts now? “What it does, it takes me back,” he said. “It takes me back to what that coach was thinking, what I was thinking, what I was being taught to do, the flow of the game, how it was called, the sequencing, the feel. It takes me back to that.
Jalen Carter’s absence could put rookie Ty Robinson in the spotlight – Inquirer
For the past month, Ty Robinson has been grappling with what he calls a “strange feeling.” Robinson, the Eagles’ fourth-round defensive tackle out of Nebraska, has been inactive for the last four games. It’s not surprising given the depth chart at the position, but it has been an adjustment for the 24-year-old. After all, Robinson went from being a five-year starter at Nebraska to an Eagles rookie behind Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, and Moro Ojomo. Still, when Robinson joined the Eagles in April, he said he understood that playing time was going to be hard to come by in a room full of “a bunch of dudes.” “I’m a realistic person,” Robinson said Friday. “So just being patient and understanding that football has its tendency to be violent. Guys are going to go down with something. Obviously you never want that, but it’s the reality of the game. So just to continue to work and help that motivate me in a good way to be ready when the time comes.”

Landon Dickerson, offensive guard: Bottom line, must play better He is direct, he is honest, and he is not hesitating one bit when asked about the mindset of this football team. “We’re here to work,” Dickerson said. “We come here to work and get better. We gotta do better. It’s as simple as that.” There are going to be ups and downs through the course of a long, long NFL season, and the key is to remain even-keeled and confident. That is the way Dickerson and the Eagles are approaching this week and Monday night against Los Angeles. “We have things to work on, just like every week,” he said. “We know we have to play better to win football games and that’s what we’re working on.” Dickerson was most effusive talking about Jordan Mailata, the Eagles’ left tackle, Dickerson’s great friend and the team’s Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee for 2025. “He cares about people and he gives back, and I’m so happy for him to be nominated,” Dickerson said. “He deserves it for all the work he puts in and the lives he changes off the field.”
NFL Week 14 predictions, fantasy sleepers, QB notes, bets – ESPN
What’s the latest on Justin Herbert and if he’ll play with a left hand fracture? Despite having surgery on his left hand four days ago, no one in the organization appears concerned about Herbert missing Monday’s game against the Eagles. Herbert practiced Thursday with a cast, throwing passes and catching snaps as normal, though gripping the ball with his left hand still appears to be a challenge. After his injury against the Raiders, the Chargers operated exclusively from the shotgun and pistol, a plan expected to continue Monday. If the Chargers need an under-center snap, they will likely turn to backup quarterback Trey Lance.
Chargers-Eagles Game Preview: Bolts must control the trenches in primetime – Bolts From The Blue
1.) How will the Chargers attempt to attack the Eagles’ defensive front? The news of Eagles DT Jalen Carter being ruled out after having surgery on both of his shoulders this week was likely music to the ears of the Chargers fan base. The interior of the Chargers offensive line has been the weak link for the offense and not having to face one of the league’s top pass-rushing tackles is a huge advantage heading into a do-or-die stretch for the Bolts. One would think that means the Chargers should curtail their run game plan to attack more between the tackles than outside, and I think you’d mostly be right. The thing is, the Chargers have been much better this year at running outside the tackles than between. Before Carter being ruled out, I would have said the definitely need to get the ball out on the edge, but now it sure seems like the Bolts can pick whichever gap they want outside of where mammoth defensive lineman Jordan Davis is lined up. The Chargers should also be watching a ton of tape from the Eagles’ loss to the Bears on Black Friday. Chicago rushed for over 200 yards and had two backs go over the 100-yard mark. That film needs to be studied feverishly to make sure the Bolts have a chance to capitalize on the same shortcomings in their matchup this Monday night.
Buffalo Bills place CB Darius Slay Jr. on Reserve/did not report list – Buffalo Rumblings
Slay instead decided it was Philly or bust, and claimed he wasn’t certain about his playing future after learning he was Buffalo bound. Now, Slay will forfeit $350,000 in salary that was due to him over the course of the final five weeks of the 2025 regular season. If Slay wants to play football again this season, it’s going to be with the Bills. He can’t be picked up by another team until free agency opens for the 2026 NFL season.
“I just got out of Pittsburgh. I don’t feel like packing up and moving again,” Slay said. “I’m like ‘bro, I’m 13 years in. I done did it.’ Now if they’d have called me at 28 (years old), 29, I’d (be) like ‘OK!’ That’s a top organization. They’ve got a lot great things going. They going to the playoffs, they got a franchise quarterback. It wasn’t a bad fit. They just caught me at a bad time. … I talked to them, it was like a little mutual talk, but I said ‘hey, I’m 34 man. I know y’all be watching tape but I’m trying to relax with my family and kids.’ I ain’t feel like packing up and moving. Then, on top of that, no offense to Buffalo (but) it’s cold as hell. I’m from the south, baby. We don’t know what snow looks like.”
Cowboys vs. Lions Stock Report: George Pickens, Jake Ferguson have rough night – Blogging The Boys
Stock Down: George Pickens. There is no denying that Thursday night was George Pickens’ worst in a Cowboys uniform. He appeared to be less engaged than normal and was clearly frustrated with how the game was unfolding. We can make note of this while not overreacting and saying that the Cowboys should not extend him now. Pickens has been a revelation for the Cowboys, so much so that he has exponentially increased the expectation that people have of him. It is inexcusable that he could not get things together on Thursday night, and the offense as a whole suffered as a result of it.
How the Cowboys can still make the playoffs – SB Nation
Thursday Night Football was billed as a “must win” for the Cowboys and Lions, which wasn’t entirely accurate. Both teams had a chance of making the playoffs, even with a loss — but it was going to be much, much more difficult to find a way into the postseason. That’s especially true of the Cowboys, who really needed to beat the Lions to reasonably keep their playoff hopes alive, but stunningly there is still one path that remains for Dallas to make the playoffs despite their mediocre 6-6-1 record so far. Everything hinges on the Philadelphia Eagles. As it stands the Cowboys have just a 7% chance of making the playoffs after the loss. In order to make the playoffs the first step is on them, winning out their remaining games — which is highly possible considering the mediocre opponents they face to close out the season.
In general then, fan confidence about team direction is based on the idea that the Commanders still have a flawed roster that was stressed beyond the breaking point by injuries in 2025, but that the coaches are responding to the situation and the team is still playing with pride and energy, making it possible to finish strong despite the season’s guaranteed losing record. With Jayden Daniels, the future seems brighter. His return to play inspires hope that the Commanders can play better and add wins in the final five weeks, and over the long term, he is seen as the type of quarterback that acts as a force multiplier for the talent on the roster. He should add wins to the season records for years to come. In the bigger picture, there seems to be a general belief that Josh Harris and his partners are committed to doing things the right way and running a quality franchise that is on the rise. At this point, most fans seem to be ready to accept 2025 as an outlier — a mere bump in the road on the path to long-term excellence as an organization. No doubt, the big-picture background of the new stadium, the NFL Draft being held in DC, and other positive trends reinforce the feeling that the organization is on an arc of success after more than two decades of the opposite.
Survey results: Is Mike Tomlin the man for the Giants’ job? – Big Blue View
It shouldn’t be much of a surprise that Tomlin has almost as much support as the next two candidates combined. He brings stability, consistent success in an environment designed to erode good programs, and instant respect and credibility. Tomlin is also only 53 years old despite being the most experienced head coach on the list, so he could be on the job for another 20 years if he so desired (and is still effective, obviously).
Breaking: Penn State Hires Iowa State’s Matt Campbell – Black Shoe Diaries
After initial reports surfaced that Penn State switched the focus of its search on Iowa State’s Matt Campbell, things have moved quickly. The Nittany Lions are now set to finalize a deal to make Campbell the next Nittany Lions head coach, after spending the last 10 season leading the Cyclones.
