After the Eagles lost to the Bears on Black Friday, defensive tackle Jalen Carter spoke to reporters and mentioned a shoulder injury that was affecting him during the game. Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said that Carter was able to still make plays despite the injury, but it looks like it was more serious than portrayed.
News broke Thursday that Carter will be out of the Eagles’ Week 14 Monday night game against the Chargers after undergoing a procedure on BOTH of his shoulders earlier in the week.
The mini-bye was a good time for Carter to prioritize his health, and it makes sense that he’ll be week-to-week in an effort to have him healthy for a playoff run. The DT has been dealing with injuries throughout the season, but has still been hugely impactful, so any games without him will be tough. But, still, the timing for Carter’s break comes at a point in the Eagles schedule that includes the Raiders (2-11) and the Commanders (3-9) twice.
It’s obviously not ideal that Carter is dealing with so many injuries, but hopefully this will allow him time to rest and come back stronger.
Carter’s absence leaves the Eagles with four healthy defensive tackles on the active roster: Jordan Davis, Moro Ojomo, Byron Young, and Ty Robinson. They also have Ta’Quon Graham and Gabe Hall on the practice squad.
