The Detroit Lions just had the week from hell

Remember that feeling when it was announced that Frank Ragnow was unretiring? Remember that feeling when it was announced that Frank Ragnow was unretiring? Suddenly, it felt like the Lions could peak at the right time, sneak into the playoffs, and be one of the most dangerous teams to face in the tournament. Were some of those hopes exaggerated due to recent hysteria? Probably. But it was a fun 24 hours, nonetheless.

What has since followed has been an avalanche of horrible events for the Lions. Amon-Ra St. Brown goes down with an ankle injury. The Lions lose to the Packers on Thanksgiving after going 0-2 on fourth down while Green Bay went 3-3. Oh, and throw in another officiating controversy, too. And before you could even digest your Thanksgiving meal, the Dallas Cowboys pulled off an improbable upset, and the Chicago Bears ruined your Black Friday with a huge upset of their own.

And just in case the Lions’ dwindling playoff hopes weren’t enough to crush your holiday weekend, Frank Ragnow failed his physical and won’t be returning to the team. We never even got to see his cheery face or talk to him about his retirement journey. He’s off to a lake somewhere, and I’m not sure we’ll ever get his full story at this point.

Oh, did you think I was done? Because I’m not.

The Sunday Rooting Guide for the Lions’ playoff odds went 1-3, and the only “positive” result came with a dreading feeling that maybe we shouldn’t count out the Carolina Panthers from the Wild Card race. Then, Kerby Joseph sent some concerning social media messages before deleting his accounts entirely and holding an extremely short and somber media session regarding his knee injury that could be chronic. And then, just before we hit record on the PODcast Monday night, it was announced that Terrion Arnold’s second season is over due to impending shoulder surgery.

Other than that, did you have a good holiday?

This week’s PODcast goes over it all. We vent our frustrations for how the season has turned and some of the bad luck along the way. We discuss the fallout from the Packers game, if this season can be salvaged, and what it means for beyond the 2025 season. You’ll have to forgive our frustrated tone this week, because of… well, everything. Maybe it can serve as some sort of healing.

You can catch the show on any podcasting platform you prefer by searching “Pride of Detroit,” but you can also just listen to it right here in the embedded Spotify player below.

If you’d rather have some video to go along with your audio, the PODcast is available in its entirety—plus some bonus content—over on our Twitch and YouTube pages.
