Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell met with the media on Sunday in preparation for the team’s Thursday game against the Dallas Cowboys. Among many other topics, Campbell provided a bunch of injury updates as they head into another week of Thursday football.

Kerby Joseph will do some individual drills

Joseph hasn’t played since the team’s Week 6 game against the Kansas City Chiefs, and Campbell provided a bit of clarity on what he’s dealing with in regards to his injury. He called it a bone bruise with a little “wear and tear.” He’s missed so much time as they’ve tried to build up some strength and stability around the knee.

When asked if this is something that Joseph may have to deal with long-term beyond this year, Campbell admitted it’s possible.

“I don’t know. It’s hard to say. I don’t think it’s necessarily going away, but I think you do the best you can to manage it,” Campbell said.

That’s the bad news. The good news is he’s progressing and may even return the practice field in a limited fashion this week.

“He’ll be running around doing some individual (drills), stuff like that,” Campbell said. “He’s doing a little bit more.”

Will he play this week?

“I mean, he’s closer than he was before. He’s close. We’ll know a lot more really tomorrow. Today’s a walkthrough so tomorrow—Friday [sic]—we’ll see where he’s at. But he is getting better. He gets better every week.”

Graham Glasgow is improving

Campbell was pretty short on Glasgow’s injury, simply offering a boilerplate improvement answer.

“Graham is doing better. There again, we walked through today,” Campbell said.

Glasgow missed his first game of the season last week with a knee injury. It’s unclear if he’s in danger of missing this week’s game against the Cowboys, but Campbell did say he liked the way Trystan Colon played in relief against the Packers.

Brock Wright could have a long-term injury

The roughest news seems to be from tight end Brock Wright, who is listed with a neck injury, and Campbell referred to it as a trachea injury. Per Campbell, they are still doing scans and seeking second opinions, but it could be a long-term injury—even though Wright feels like he can play.

“We’re still sending out scans for this trachea, and just seeing if there are any other second opinions that would change the outlook for him playing. And right now, there’s really nothing right now that would change that. So, I know that frustrates him. He wants to play, but we’re just kinda in a holding pattern right now.”

With Sam LaPorta already lost for the season, the Lions trotted out Ross Dwelley, Anthony Firkser, and Zach Horton against the Packers. Earlier on Sunday, the Lions also signed free agent Giovanni Ricci to the practice squad.
