The Indianapolis Colts announced on Tuesday that wide receiver Ashton Dulin (hamstring) has been placed on injured reserve, and the team signed veteran safety George Odum to the 53-man active roster from the practice squad in a corresponding roster move.
The Colts also re-signed released cornerback Cameron Mitchell back to the team’s practice squad.
Dulin had one of the big plays for the Colts offensively last weekend, catching a 48-yard reception when lining up as an in-line tight end as part of an innovative deception play design by head coach Shane Steichen. He’s been featured more within the Colts offense at wideout following AD Mitchell’s benching and subsequent recent trade to the New York Jets as part of the Sauce Gardner deadline deal.
On the season, he has 5 receptions for 106 total receiving yards during 10 games (2 starts).
Perhaps most importantly though, he’s one of the Colts best special teams gunners, and he’ll now be out until Week 17’s home finale (not regular season finale) against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
In his place, the Colts essentially elevated veteran safety George Odum, who now at 32-years-old, is a former 2x NFL All-Pro on special teams—including in 2020 formerly with Indianapolis, before joining the San Francisco 49ers in more recent seasons and becoming a core ST guy for them. Odum could become a big addition down the season’s stretch in relief of Dulin given his wealth of experience and prior special teams prowess.
Mitchell was previously on the Colts’ active 53-man roster but was released last weekend with the activation of veteran cornerback Charvarius Ward off injured reserve ahead of their road game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
