Let the record show that I picked the Cowboys on Sunday. I thought they would beat the Eagles.

To be clear, the Cowboys did beat the Eagles. These are sweet words to say out loud, but they taste even better in writing them on this particular corner of the internet (sup, BGN). Philly lost their precious Dallas Week and what’s more is that they authored an incredibly embarrassing choke of a performance as they squandered a 21-0 lead.

My name is RJ Ochoa and I am the Manager/Editor-in-Chief for SB Nation’s Dallas Cowboys site Blogging The Boys. Some of you know me from the NFC East Mixtape from BLG, the rest of you know me from my football team living rent free in all of your collective minds.

BLG and I (plus Dave Halprin and Dave Mangles) jumped across enemy lines last week for some posts on either site from the perspective of the other team and it would only be right for me to tie a bow on it all, right?

Right!

As noted I did believe the Cowboys to win. You can bet your bottom dollar that I questioned that and felt silly when they were down early on.

This game was tied for the largest comeback win in Cowboys franchise history (lololol) with a win that they had against the St. Louis Rams in 2014. Obviously this is easy to say now, but I felt similar in this game than I did in that one in that the Cowboys had the “luxury” of falling down so big so early.

What’s more is that like even as dire as the circumstances looked the faint heartbeat of confidence I had was that the Eagles offense was capitalizing on some mistakes from the Cowboys. I am not trying to take away credit from the Eagles, just noting that they had short fields or whatever to work with and capitalized. They should not be penalized for capitalizing on an opportunity. Give them their credit.

But I picked Dallas because of how floundering the Eagles offense was entering this game and this whole idea for me centered around the fact that they didn’t exactly look back to proper form. They were just capitalizing on what they could. It made sense (in an extreme cope sort of way) that if Dallas could just figure their own offense out that maybe something very cool could happen.

We all know what happened and I have already re-hashed enough to the point that if you made it this far I am impressed. The Eagles were shut out by the vaunted (lol) Cowboys defense on their final 7 possessions. They only crossed midfield and/or gained more than 18 yards on 2 of them. I understand you all to have some qualms with the Eagles offense and believe you are well within reason to feel that way.

I think that when the NFL schedule came out and we all predicted games that it was a fairly common sentiment to have the Cowboys and Eagles splitting their games. That ran chalk. Each team won their home game (keep in mind that neither Nick Sirianni nor Jalen Hurts have ever beaten a Dak Prescott-led Cowboys team in his home building).

We certainly could not have anticipated the way that this one would have gone. I wish that I could have all of your thoughts and tweets from when it was 21-0 bottled up to examine. I know there were plenty.

As I leave BGN after your favorite and beloved week allow me to offer two final thoughts:

  1. I want you to know that we as Cowboys fans were collectively miserable and that your team falling on its face was a catalyst for so much joy that we will feel. Your team did that.
  2. Dak Prescott became the Dallas Cowboys’ all-time passing leader in a game where he and his teammates erased a 21-0 point lead that the Eagles mounted while wearing their precious kelly green jerseys.

Health, wealth, and happiness to you all! Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas!
