Not only are the Detroit Lions doing big things on the field over the course of the last several years, they are also making waves off the field, too. Some of their stars have inked deals with national brands such as Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown’s partnerships with Adidas and Abercrombie, or running back Jahmyr Gibbs’ deals with Sony and Air Jordan. You would have to go back to the 1990s and the days of Lions legendary running back Barry Sanders to find an era where the Lions had this many household names on their roster.
Kiwiclo is another brand that has already had clothing drops featuring several Lions players, with a Jameson Williams drop coming in a matter of days.
On the local level, brands have taken notice with how big the Lions are in the city, and have come up with some really cool partnerships. For many reasons, Faygo’s commercials and ads with Gibbs and fellow running back David Montgomery are some of my favorites. And while people in the area may have their own feelings about Cure Auto Insurance, they clearly don’t mind paying Detroit athletes to be in their ads, with both St. Brown and quarterback Jared Goff making appearances.
So while there are already a lot out there, which current Lions player would you want to partner with a local-Detroit or Michigan brand?
My answer: I was a bit torn here so I am going with two answers. My first is I would want to see All-Pro right tackle Penei Sewell in one of my favorite clothing brands in the city, Detroit Is Not Dead. Him walking into the stadium with a Detroit Hunting Club hoody on would be incredibly tough.
My second answer would be receiver Jameson Williams in a Better Made ad. Like the Lions star receiver, Detroiters appreciate a good potato chip, and when you are in the city, it has to be Better Made. I will also say these scenarios could be flipped around, and it would also work.
What about you? Which collaboration between a local brand and a current Lions player would you want to see? Let us know in the comments, below.
