On Thursday, the Detroit Lions started the injury evaluation clock for corner/gunner Khalil Dorsey.
Dorsey has had a rough past year when it comes to injuries. After breaking his leg in Week 15 of 2024, Dorsey began the long road of recovery, which extended into training camp. In mid-August, Dorsey was finally able to take the practice field and got himself in game shape in time for the season. Unfortunately, after just a month of games, Dorsey suffered a concussion. Making matters worse, while working his way through the NFL’s protocols to return, he injured his wrist during practice, which ended up requiring a stint on injured reserve.
Dorsey is a steady veteran depth piece at corner, but his true value is on special teams, where he is one of the NFL’s best gunners. This is Dorsey’s fourth season with the Lions, and this coaching staff raves about his promise and dependability in the third phase of the game.
“Dorsey is huge, I mean, this guy is one of the great gunners in the game of football right now. So obviously getting him back is outstanding,” Lions special teams coordinator Dave Fipp said of getting Dorsey back during training camp.
Over the next 21 days, Dorsey is allowed to practice with his teammates while the team assesses his recovery from his wrist injury. Once they determine he is ready to return to the active roster, he can be removed from injured reserve and added to the 53-man roster.
