The Eagles have taken down some of the best teams in the NFL so far this season: The Chiefs, Packers, Rams, and Bucs are just a few of the seven teams the Eagles have beaten to be considered one of the better teams in the league. Sunday’s match is another great test of this Philly squad. The Lions are a contender to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl, with talent all over their roster. Beating them would put Philly on track for the top seed in the conference, but it won’t be a cake walk. The Lions are immensely talented on both sides of the ball. For the Eagles rookies, it will be slowing Detroit’s offense that will be the primary focus.
The Eagles have thrown a lot at Jihaad Campbell in his rookie season. After settling in at inside linebacker earlier this season, his role has become a bit more hybrid and also he’s lost snaps to Nakobe Dean. The result has been more uneven play from the talented rookie, as he’s looked more out of place in coverage and missed key tackles.
The Lions’ offense is loaded with talent that Campbell will be charged with facing directly. Amon Ra St. Brown and Jahmyr Gibbs will be big parts of the Lions short and intermediate passing game, not to mention Gibbs running the ball for Detroit. Both players are among the best in the league at their position and one bad rep against them could lead to a big gain or a score. Campbell will need to be on the top of his game.
If the Eagles ask the first rounder to drop down onto the line of scrimmage often in this game, he will be facing some of the better offensive linemen in the league. This is a huge, huge test for Campbell and the implications of his play will be felt through this game and beyond.
Will Andrew Mukuba keep the cap on the Lions’ passing game?
The Lions can beat a defense in a variety of ways. With Jameson Williams in the lineup, any play could be a big, big gain. The threat of an explosive Williams play opens up so much for the Lions offense. If Andrew Mukuba can shut the door on the deep play over the top, the Eagles can shrink the field on the Lions and make them one-less dimension stronger. Mukuba has been getting better and better lately. The rookie safety’s steadiness will be crucial in this game.
