Eagles News: Philadelphia primed for passing success against Lions?

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …

NFL Week 11 picks, predictions, schedule, odds, fantasy tips – ESPN

Bold prediction: The Eagles will have a positive pass rate over expectation for just the second time this season, per NFL Next Gen Stats. In last week’s ugly win, the Eagles reverted to their run-heavy ways — without success. It would make more sense for them to throw the ball more against Detroit, and I expect they will. […] Fantasy nugget: The Lions’ defense has been better against the run than the pass, which creates a unique opportunity for QB Jalen Hurts and WRs A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. The Eagles rank 10th in rushing attempts per game, but could they flip the script this week? Brown has just one game with at least 10 targets, while Smith has two. The Lions’ defensive front ranks last in pass rush win rate.

Eagles Injury Report: Lane Johnson upgraded, Cam Jurgens limited again – BGN

The Lions made one new addition to their injury report: Amik Robertson. He was limited due to a hamstring injury. Robertson began the season playing at nickel cornerback before D.J. Reed’s hamstring injury forced Robertson to play on the outside. If neither Reed (who was limited again) nor Arnold nor Robertson can play, the Lions will be without three of their top cornerback options. Something to monitor.

Detroit Lions vs. Philadelphia Eagles preview, prediction: On Paper – Pride Of Detroit

That said, we have to talk about secondary injuries for the Lions right now. At this point, it seems unlikely Detroit will have starters Terrion Arnold and Kerby Joseph. I’m skeptical starter D.J. Reed will return after just one week of practice. To add to the adversity, Amik Robertson popped up on the injury report Thursday. That’s a tough look for a strong Eagles receiving corps. Player to watch: A.J. Brown. Brown’s efficiency has plummeted this year (83.0 yards per game in 2024, 51.0 per game in 2025), and he’s let everyone know about it. While he’s been complaining all year, it feels like it came to a head this week, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Eagles try to force-feed him this week, especially with a weakened Lions secondary. Advantage: Eagles +1. I don’t expect Hurts to rack up 300 yards or anything—that’s just not how this offense operates. But with Detroit’s secondary injuries, I do think they should be able to find a level of efficiency, and possibly hit on an explosive play or two.

The Best NFL Bets of Week 11 – The Ringer

There’s a recurring theme here: If your team is playing in the northeast on Sunday, their game will be impacted by wind. In addition to Pittsburgh, Cleveland, (and Buffalo), Philadelphia has high winds forecasted, with gusts potentially reaching 30 mph. The weather conditions will probably make Nick Sirianni and Jalen Hurts even more cautious in obvious passing situations. No one loves a third-and-long run like Philly. Also, A.J. Brown is already telling fantasy owners to drop him. On the one hand, the matchup of Brown and DeVonta Smith against this poor Detroit secondary could be a serious problem. On the other hand … what even is the Philly offense at this point? The Eagles have run the ball at the third-highest rate in the NFL (yet haven’t effectively utilized Saquon Barkley), and the passing game is so annoyingly bland and predictable that it felt like Green Bay knew every play ahead of time on Monday night.

Is A.J. Brown still an elite receiver? – PhillyVoice

Do Nick Sirianni and Kevin Patullo need to figure out how to more effectively beat the zone coverages that have frustrated the offense all season? Yes! Could Jalen Hurts see the field better at times and get the ball to Brown in situations that he is open? Yes! Can it be frustrating for a receiver accustomed to greatness to play in a run-first offense and have limited control over his effect on games from week to week? No doubt. But also, on the eye test, in my opinion, Brown just doesn’t look like the same top-3 type of receiver we have come to know during his time in Philly, and if we’re being frank, he quit on a deep route against the Broncos that could have been a TD. Maybe the Eagles are 8-1 instead of 7-2 if he doesn’t. His teammates and the coaching staff never complained about that. It’s probably too soon to say Brown is in decline based on a sample size of his eight games played, and it’s also worth noting that he missed the bulk of training camp with a hamstring injury. But it’s also fair to suggest that his individual play can and should be better than what it has been.

2025 Game Review – PHI 10, GB 7 – Iggles Blitz

Jalen Hurts was disappointing. He went 15-26-183 with a TD pass. He also lost a fumble with the team in scoring position. Hurts just looked off all night. He wasn’t comfortable. He had a couple of bad throws to the left flat that could have been picked off. There was a throw across his body to DG that could have been picked. Hurts had a chance to hit Calcaterra for a potential TD, but the pass was too high. Even the TD pass was a problem. If he puts the ball out in front of DeVonta, that’s an easy TD. Instead the ball was late and DeVonta had to make a leaping catch over the DB. Give Hurts credit for doing enough to win, but he needs to play better for the offense to get where it needs to.

PFF Bets of the Week: NFL Week 11 – PFF

Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles: Under 33.5 rushing yards (-118 Bet MGM). Hurts hasn’t eclipsed this total since Week 4, and Philadelphia has placed less emphasis on designed quarterback runs in recent weeks. While Detroit has struggled to contain running quarterbacks in the past, the highest rushing total it has allowed to any quarterback this season is 35 yards, which came from Lamar Jackson in Week 2.

NFL Week 11 picks: Upset and score predictions, matchup analysis for every game – NFL.com

Why Brooke picked the Eagles: Here’s to finally getting the NFC title game matchup everyone expected to see last January. Dan Campbell taking over play-calling duties paid off against a lesser foe last week, but calling a good game against Vic Fangio’s top-10 scoring defense is a much tougher task. The Lions ran play-action on a season-high 51.4 percent of dropbacks in Week 10 — up from 28 percent in Weeks 1-9, per Next Gen Stats. Should we expect another high dose of play-action from the Lions? It’s possible, because while Philly’s defense ranks among the league’s best against the pass, it has struggled against play-action this season, allowing 10 yards per attempt, fifth-most in the league. I expect Detroit to routinely look for the big plays downfield, and it’ll need them to pull off the upset. Perhaps the biggest storyline entering this game is A.J. Brown’s continued frustration with the offense, which has reached an all-time high. No matter: The Eagles have found ways to move the sticks and stack wins. This unit isn’t playing to the level it was during last year’s Super Bowl run, but when your coach is confident enough to call a highly questionable, low-percentage shot on fourth-and-6 with the game hanging in the balance, it’s a good sign. Great teams find ways to win. Both of these clubs fall into that category. Yet, with Detroit dealing with a few too many injuries to its secondary and with this game being played in Philadelphia, the scales tilt the Eagles’ way.

Bowen: A.J. Brown needs Eagles offensive coaches to understand that Super Bowl rings don’t fit on crossed fingers – PHLY

Brown reiterated that he doesn’t have a problem with Hurts, and that he understands that sometimes coverages can take him out of the play. But if he’s taken out of the play, the play has to be there for someone else, and the way things generally work, if DeVonta Smith or Dallas Goedert or Barkley can be productive enough, defenses will have to try to take that away, and then Brown can eat. There are all sorts of reasons and excuses for the lack of production, but right now, Brown seems to be the only voice saying, “Yes, we’re winning, but this output isn’t going to be good enough.” That message needs to be understood and acted upon.

‘He knows how I feel:’ Kevin Patullo talks about relationship with A.J. Brown – NBCSP

Brown’s 54 targets are tied for 43rd-most in the league. His 400 targets the last three years were 10th-most. But Patullo said Brown, although clearly frustrated, has been nothing but professional behind the scenes. “I think from that standpoint, nothing really changes,” Patullo said. “He knows kind of how I feel about him and where we want to go and what we’re trying to do. “Obviously, he’s a main part of this offense and when we game plan, you always want to look to 11, 26, 6 and 88. That’s where the ball needs to go and it just kind of goes from there. I think when you look at our relationship all the way back to ‘22, nothing’s really changed. Him and I talk continuously, pretty much about everything.” So what exactly is happening to limit Brown’s targets, touches and receptions? Patullo said there are a lot of factors, but he said teams are defending the Eagles differently than they have in the past and differently than they’ve shown on film. So the offense is constantly adjusting to what the coaches are seeing, and Brown is paying the price. “I think if you look at the style of defense we’ve played this year kind of on a consistent basis, we’ve played top-tier defenses in the pass rush and things like that,” he said. “I think it’s just kind of the situations we’ve been in and teams we’ve played week after week have just had different games.

How an Eagles star lifts a struggling teammate while battling his own issues: ‘That’s a good dude’ – NJ.com

But as long as Brown doesn’t cause further disruption in the building, the Eagles can manage these moments when he vents online. So far, he appears not to be causing a divide. His leadership is still strong behind the scenes even though he’s not happy. “I’m always trying to make somebody smile, but he’ll do the same thing with me,” Gipson said. “He will ask me, ‘You good, bro?’ He’ll check up on me. It’s just deeper than football, deeper than anything that’s going through your mind. That’s a good dude.”

‘He’s a survivor’: Veteran corner Adoree’ Jackson still hanging on as a starter with the Eagles – Inquirer

Adoree’ Jackson’s world used to be small. He grew up on the east side of the Mississippi River in Belleville, Ill., and had familial ties to East St. Louis and its urban decay. The farthest he had been from home was Missouri and Kansas before his athleticism in track and football found him on the way to southern California for his sophomore year of high school. Jackson turned to that past last month when talking about the career crossroads he has been facing with the Eagles, who signed him this past offseason to a one-year deal and gave him a chance to compete for a starting cornerback job. “I can only be fortunate, thankful, and grateful,” Jackson, in his ninth season, said in October. “You want to play as long as you can, as long as you want. Whatever happens this season or going forward, I’m going to be all right.”

Spadaro: The Eagles defense has a tall task against the Lions – PE.com

The Eagles have watched so much film this week, and the consensus is that the Detroit Lions have a great offensive machine coming into Lincoln Financial Field. The scheme is terrific. The weapons, as good as any in the league. The offensive line, certainly one of the very best in the NFL, from tackle to tackle. The quarterback, Jared Goff, is playing the best football of his career. Detroit averages 31.4 points per game, has amassed a 6-3 record to date, and has the Eagles’ full attention ahead of Sunday night’s Salute to Service game at Lincoln Financial Field. “I think this is one of the best offensive lines we’ll face,” defensive tackle Moro Ojomo said. “One of the best running attacks we’re going to face and we’re excited. We’ve been playing the run game better and we’re focusing on playing the run game better and that’s what we want – to go out there and stop the run.”

Michael Carter II is the nickel who can solidify Eagles’ secondary – The Athletic

The CB2 spot has been a consistent question mark for the Eagles’ defense. Adoree’ Jackson remains the starter opposite Quinyon Mitchell. Fangio described Jackson as “a survivor” and expressed hope that Jackson could “build on” a dependable outing against the Green Bay Packers “and keep playing good.” When asked what would prompt moving DeJean to outside corner, Fangio said, if “the play out there is not good enough.”

Carter offers the flexibility the Eagles covet in their secondary. A former safety at Duke, Carter has reunited with Eagles safeties coach Joe Kasper, who coached Carter while a graduate assistant with the Blue Devils. Kasper is helping Carter cross-train at safety and nickel. But Fangio said Carter is “a good nickel, that’s his best position.” Onboarding Carter midseason in Fangio’s system is a unique challenge. “Everything’s totally new for him,” Fangio said. “But I like him, and if we need another nickel, he’s going in.” Totally new. System. City. Teammates. Shortly after the trade, Kasper connected Carter in a group text with DeJean and starting safety Reed Blankenship. “Yo, this is Mike. We were together at Duke. We used to whip up on Middle Tennessee and all that stuff,” he texted. Blankenship, a former Middle Tennessee safety, played against Carter and Kasper in Duke’s 41-18 win in 2019. “Joe had to bring that up,” Carter laughed.

Dan Campbell: Jared Goff continues to take it another notch, continues to get better – PFT

“[S]imply in this walkthrough, this is the first taste of this gameplan going into Philly. What he — it’s just unbelievable, what he’s able to grasp, retain, get us into the right play, and we literally just gave it to him. You don’t even have time to digest it. You’re running onto the field and now you’re going through it, you’re walking through it. That’s one of his superpowers, right? He plays with the gray matter, and he’s got the ability to put it on the spot in tight coverage. I think that’s rare to have both. But he knows what helps him and what makes him who he is. He’s got to be able to rely on that. He’s not a guy who’s going to be able to — he’s not Lamar Jackson. So, he leans on what his abilities and skills are. He’s playing at a high level.”

Cowboys analytics roundup: Defensive reinforcements coming just in time – Blogging The Boys

Here is where the Cowboys should expect to see the biggest change once they come out of the bye. DaRon Bland has struggled this year, but he’s been better in the slot. Having Shavon Revel on the outside allows Bland to play inside, and also gives Trikweze Bridges a rest after being targeted early and often since becoming a starter. The linebacker duo of Kenneth Murray and Shemar James has also been really bad against the pass. With Overshown and Wilson now in town, there’s really no reason for either of them to play significant snaps on defense going forward, especially in passing downs. So take a good, long look at this table; if it doesn’t start to change dramatically in the next few weeks, not much else will matter for the Cowboys.

Commanders vs Dolphins Thursday Injury Report: Ben Sinnott limited with ankle injury – Hogs Haven

Four players didn’t travel to Spain as they deal with injuries. QB Jayden Daniels has already been ruled out, and he’ll miss his second game due to an elbow dislocation. He is expected to be reevaluated after the team’s Week 12 bye, when the team will reassess his return to play timeline. WR Treylon Burks underwent finger surgery, and LB Ale Kaho didn’t travel after suffering a concussion on a kickoff on Sunday against the Lions.

Giants-Packers injuries: Long list of New York players not practicing – Big Blue View

The New York Giants continued to show a long list of injured players on Thursday as the prepare to face the Green Bay Packers in NFL Week 11. A half-dozen starters did not practice, and several others were limited participants. The expectation is that rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart won’t have time to clear the concussion protocol, meaning Jameis Winston will start the game. We will have to see if the lengthy injury list causes new head coach Mike Kafka ans GM Joe Schoen to make roster changes before Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers.

Rams-Seahawks might be the Game of the Week, but few can watch – SB Nation

There are few ways you could make the case this is the Game of the Week, or at least one that should get a bigger audience. Yes, the Lions versus the Eagles stands out, but that is also on Sunday Night Football. Buccaneers versus Bills is another solid game, but that comes in the early window on Sunday. Seahawks versus Rams is a meeting of two of the best teams in the league, at least in terms of Offensive and Defensive Expected Points Added:
