Going all the way back to 1934, the Detroit Lions have always played on Thanksgiving Day. Apart from the six year span that took place during World War 2, you could set your clock to the first football game of the day being played in the state of Michigan at 12:30 p.m. ET. From the days of Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders running all over defenses back in the Pontiac Silverdome, to the present day at Ford Field in Downtown Detroit—the Lions have always been synonymous with Turkey Day.
To make things even sweeter, not only are the Lions one of the most-watched teams in the entire NFL these days, the halftime show just got a lot better, too. Detroit-native Eminem and his longtime agent Paul Rosenberg have announced that they will be partnering with the Lions to produce the halftime shows through the 2027 season.
And while a performer for the 2025 show has not yet been announced, that brings me to the question of the day. Who would be your pick for this year’s game against the Green Bay Packers?
My answer: I am going to go with part of the answer Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams gave when asked about his thoughts regarding the announcement. “Yeah that’s big,” Williams said during his media availability earlier this week. “Hopefully he can get some of my guys like Veeze and (Babyface) Ray to do a show at halftime. That would be big. I think that would be good for the culture, too.”
Besides the two Williams mentioned, I would throw a few more names out there like Royce da 5′9″, 42 Dugg, Kash Doll—there is definitely no shortage of options here in the city.
What about you? Who would you want to see performer in this year’s halftime show, or even the next couple of years? Let us know in the comments below.
