It feels like it’s been forever since the Philadelphia Eagles played a football game.
Between the Week 9 bye and the Birds not playing until Monday night, we’ve seen two NFL Sundays come and go.
Now the Eagles are back in action in a very important game against the Green Bay Packers.
The Packers are supposed to be one of the very best teams in the NFL. But the truth is they haven’t really passed the eye test since Week 2. To this point, their fans aren’t feeling very confident entering this game.
I do think it’s quite possible that the Eagles’ last game — a Week 8 win over the New York Giants — was an indication that this team is figuring some things out. Kevin Patullo seems to be finding a groove. The offensive line, and thus the run game, could be getting back on track. Jalen Hurts is playing at a very high level. The defense could be helped out by the returns of Nolan Smith and Brandon Graham … plus the addition of trade acquisition Jaelan Phillips.
The Eagles might truly be rounding into form as the top team in the entire NFL.
Of course, it won’t take long for such optimism to dissipate if we see more of the same struggles from earlier in the season against the Packers. Sometimes getting away from football can make you feel better about things than you really should. Just look at how fans of most teams are typically feeling pretty good before Week 1 … and then that feeling quickly fades after a loss or two.
But the Eagles aren’t most teams. They should be expected to put forth a strong effort tonight against a Packers team that was so shook by losing to the Birds twice last year that they unsuccessfully tried to get the tush push banned. They should be expected to look well-rested and well-prepared coming out of the bye.
It feels like the Eagles are primed to beat the Packers tonight.
