Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …
Inside Packers-Eagles battle over banning the tush push – ESPN
At least one online gambling site, BetOnline, released an over/under for the number of times the Eagles will run the tush push against the Packers on Monday. It was set at 1.5. A long-time offensive assistant thinks the Eagles will want to prove a point. When asked how many times he thinks they’re going to run, he said: “Over and over and over and over. Heck, they might run it on second-and-2 just to shove it in your face. “Does it belong in football? I don’t know. They’re not the only team that’s running it. I’ve seen other teams do it. Stop it or join the party.” Or as Kinnard said: “Just keep it from being third-and-short. That’s really the best answer.”
Packers brace for Eagles’ tush push after trying to ban it: ‘I hate that play’ – The Athletic
It’s one thing for the Eagles to run the play on third- and fourth-and-short, but certain Packers might not even be surprised if the defending Super Bowl champions run it simply to troll the team that tried to take away their fun. “They might run it the first play of the game,” Packers defensive tackle Karl Brooks said, perhaps in jest. “You never know.” Don’t expect Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley to spend much time, if any, preparing for that possibility, though. “I can’t imagine that’s what they’re going to do,” Hafley said Friday with a laugh. “I didn’t think about that, so now you give me another thought. Thanks. Now I’m going to go home later tonight and start dreaming about (the) first play of the game.”
Cowboys included trade provision to prevent Micah Parsons going to the Eagles – BGN
The Eagles reportedly made a big offer to Jerry Jones for Micah Parsons ahead of the season, with the Cowboys owner supposedly upcharging a division rival. Ultimately, the Packers were the team that landed Parsons, but that wasn’t the last of Jones trying to keep the edge rusher from returning to the NFC East.
The Cowboys put a ‘poison pill’ in the Micah Parsons deal – Blogging The Boys
The reason this information came to light after no one discussed it publicly since the Parsons trade went down this summer is that the Cowboys traded for Quinnen Williams and gave up a 2027 first-round draft pick. There was specific language attached to their 2028 first-round pick stating that it cannot be traded due to the poison-pill conditions. Schefter mentions his sources applauded Dallas for adding this into the deal, preventing Parsons from heading to their biggest rival. Parsons, a Harrisburg, PA native and former Penn State standout, would have had a homecoming with the Eagles, but Dallas made sure that wouldn’t be reality—at least for the next few seasons. A smart move by Jerry Jones and the entire Cowboys front office.
Lampkin was waived with an injury designation by the Rams at 53-man cutdowns, and the Eagles claimed him. It is a rarity in the NFL for a player to be claimed when he has an injury designation, but the Eagles snapped him right up and placed him on injured reserve a couple days later. Per a source, the Rams were privately annoyed that the Eagles claimed him, citing an “unwritten rule” that teams don’t normally claim players who are waived with injury designations. Of course, if the Rams liked Lampkin that much they could have used one of their injured reserve designations on him, and they would have been able to keep him. They didn’t, and the Eagles capitalized. Anyway, the Eagles opened Lampkin’s 21-day practice window to return from IR, so it appears that he may be on their 53-man roster this season. It will be fun to see if and how the Eagles get creative in their use of Lampkin in real games, whether that’s on the line or at fullback or something.
Game Preview – PHI at GB – Iggles Blitz
The Eagles offense played really well against the Giants in the last game. GB has a better defense, to put it mildly. This will be a much better test. The offense will get AJ Brown back, but will have another week without Cam Jurgens. The big question is if the run game can have another big day. The Packers are 5th in the league in rush yards allowed. The Eagles are coming off a game where they ran for 276 yards. GB allowed 163 rushing yards in their last game. Brett Toth played well at center last week. The Eagles figured out how to use him and got a good performance from Toth. He is at his best on the move. You don’t want him doing reach blocks. GB has studied the tape and will have some ideas on how to deal with him. Micah Parsons will attack from all over. He will line up on the edge, inside or off the ball. Where’s Waldo? But Waldo runs 4.3 and can wreck games. The Eagles have faced him a lot, just not as a Packer. Hurts and his blockers must do a good job of identifying the front and where Parsons is. Then they have to make sure to have him blocked. Parsons has 6.5 sacks and 14 QB hits so far this season.
Eagles-Packers Monday Night Football Week 10 Preview: Odds, lines, best bets – PFF
To Philadelphia’s credit, the Eagles have flourished on the road, holding a 3-1 record as road favorites, and now face their first spread as the underdog this season. Although the Eagles struggled early in October, they closed out the month on a high note with a pair of wins, highlighted by newfound offensive efficiency — posting the highest EPA per play mark in the NFL since Week 7. Now rested coming off their Week 9 bye, the Eagles are geared up to extend that momentum. The most promising aspect of Philadelphia’s recent offensive success may be the boost to the running game. Against the Giants, Saquon Barkley earned his highest PFF rushing grade of the season (84.2), totaling 150 yards on just 14 carries. If Barkley can get it going again this week, he could swing this game in Philadelphia’s favor, after the Packers just let up a massive 130-yard performance to Rico Dowdle and the Panthers this past week.
Spadaro: 6 storylines to follow in Eagles at Packers – PE.com
4. Philadelphia’s running game – ready to soar? Saquon Barkley and Tank Bigsby both went over the 100-yard mark against the Giants as the Eagles ran for 276 yards. Barkley had a 65-yard touchdown run to start things, and the running game just rolled from that. Was it a turning point for the ground attack? We shall see. Green Bay’s run defense allows just 89.4 yards per game but sprung some leaks in the loss to the Panthers as Carolina ran for 163 yards. Running back Rico Dowdle had 130 by himself. That’s the setup. The play-action game has worked for a red-hot Jalen Hurts as he’s taken more reps under center. The Eagles have played downhill football in wins over Minnesota and New York. In this game? Running the ball would open up everything for Hurts and the passing game, too.
Eagles notebook: Don’t give a bleep about weather, happy trails to a champ, more – NBCSP
It’s going to be cold at Lambeau Field on Monday night. The high temperature expected for Monday in Green Bay is in the 30s, the low is 22 and the wind chill will likely dip into the teens at some point during the evening. What does Jordan Davis think about a cold weather game? Not much. “Don’t give a f—. Sorry,” Davis said. “At the end of the day, everybody makes a cold weather game bigger than what it is. But at the end of the day, we’re in Philly, it’s going to be cold in Philly. … “It really doesn’t matter. I feel like if you psyche yourself out and you’re like, ‘Ahh, it’s going to be cold,’ you already got your mind made up. We go in there, it’s just another cold weather game. I played in Chicago. After that, I feel like anything, we straight.” Davis is right about that Chicago game on Dec. 18, 2022. It won’t be as cold in Green Bay for this game as it was at Soldier Field for that one. That was an afternoon game with the temperature at 18 degrees and the wind chill down to 3.
1) Hurts looks to keep rolling. There seemed to be endless consternation over Philadelphia’s passing offense during the first six games of the season. Then came Jalen Hurts’ explosions against the Vikings and Giants. He finished the Week 7 win over Minnesota with a perfect 158.3 passer rating and followed it up with a 141.5 rating versus Big Blue, trouncing his 100.2 mark through the previous six contests. Between Weeks 7-8, Hurts threw for 505 yards and seven touchdowns, just one fewer than he entered the Vikings game with, to bring his season total to 15 TDs compared to just one interception. He quieted the noise surrounding the usage of his top two targets, A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, as they contributed 19 catches for 388 yards and three TDs — and that’s with Brown missing the game against New York due to a hamstring injury. Now, with Brown back, the question is whether Hurts and Co. can come out of their bye just as hot.
Report: Eagles’ charter delayed, but they are now in Wisconsin – PFT
NFL teams don’t fly commercial, of course, but the Eagles saw their charter delayed “a few hours” on Sunday, John Clark of NBC Philadelphia reports. The Eagles, though, have arrived in Wisconsin ahead of Monday Night Football. Eagles fans also ran into travel problems, and some chose to drive the 974 miles to get there, Clark reports.
NFC Playoff Picture: Packers have a lot to lose on Monday – Acme Packing Company
So what’s at stake for the Green Bay Packers going into Monday Night Football against the Philadelphia Eagles? Currently, Green Bay is the third seed in the NFC, owning the top spot in the NFC North. Because of the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears winning this past weekend, though, the Packers would drop all the way to the seventh seed in the NFC with a loss to the Eagles, one spot removed from playoff elimination if the season ended after Week 10. That’s right, they would get jumped not only by the Lions, but also by the Bears (along with the Buccaneers and Rams). If they do manage to beat the Eagles, though, the Packers will leap over Philadelphia and claim the second seed in the NFC, only behind the Seattle Seahawks. For what it’s worth, both the Seahawks and Rams will be at 7-2, but only one of them will be ranked among the top four seeds in the conference — which are allocated to division leaders only.
Commanders Vs. Lions – Studs and Duds – Hogs Haven
The ENTIRE DEFENSE: What an EMBARRASSMENT this entire unit has become. They can’t even execute the simplest of assignments. A firing needs to happen come Monday; not that I expect it to fix much… Joe Whitt Jr.: What an incredible DUD Whitt is. His defense allowed a WHOPPING 546 total yards to Detroit. His scheme is the definition of insanity – doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
Brian Daboll’s time as Giants head coach is running out – Big Blue View
So, of course the Giants lost on Sunday. That was inevitable. Turning victories into losses is the thing they do best. Of course Dart got hurt. That, too, was inevitable. If the Giants were going to continue using him like Brandon Jacobs or Jerome Bettis instead of a franchise quarterback they hope to build around, a concussion — or worse — was always going to happen. The question now isn’t whether Russell Wilson or Jameis Winston should start next Sunday against the Green Bay Packers, though that certainly is a question. The question is whether Brian Daboll will, or should, be the one charged with making that decision. Let’s be real. If it wasn’t clear before Sunday that Daboll shouldn’t be, can’t be, won’t be the coach to lead the Giants forward into the Jaxson Dart era, it certainly is clear now. Does anyone really still believe Daboll is the right coach to both develop Dart and to maximize the Giants’ future with a 22-year-old quarterback who looks like the real deal?
NFL winners and losers: Mismanagement will be the Bills downfall – SB Nation
For the majority of the Josh Allen era the Buffalo Bills have been a victim of circumstance. They’ve boasted one of the best teams in the NFL, but trapped in the AFC during a time where the Chiefs exist — A modern re-imagining of the Peyton Manning Colts playing second fiddle to the Patriots. In past years it hasn’t really been their fault. Too much has been out of their control, and all they could do is keep running it back in the hopes cracks would show, and finally they might find a way through. 2025 had those cracks. Everything was set up for the Bills to finally make their run. Now it’s disappearing before our eyes. It’s certainly fair to consider this an overreaction to one ugly loss to Miami, but it’s more how the Bills fell, not simply that this did. This isn’t a case of a bad afternoon, or the Dolphins playing the game of their lives, but the end point of what has been plaguing Buffalo for much of the year. This is an offense that has failed to develop a vertical passing game because of its deficiencies at wide receiver, and a secondary beleaguered by injuries that never got addressed.
