Week 1o has the Los Angeles Rams (6-2) traveling to Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara Ca. for a Sunday November 9 matchup with their arch nemesis, the San Francisco 49ers (6-3). Kickoff is scheduled for 1:25 PST. L.A. is looking not only to tighten its grip on the top spot in the NFC West, but also to avenge a 26-23 loss inflicted by the ‘Niners one month ago.
Sunday marks the 154th all-time meeting of the two rivals, dating back to its 1950 origin. San Francisco leads the all-time series 79-71-3. The Rams record during the Sean McVay era (starting in 2017) is 7-11. Over their storied history, the two teams have only met in the playoffs twice, both times for the NFC Championship and the winner going on to win the Super Bowl. The 49ers winning in 1990 and the Rams in 2021.
Both team’s offenses are driven by the passing game and with Sunday’s weather expected to be in the high 70’s and light winds, the air should be filled. In the October 2 meeting, Mac Jones (SF) and Matthew Stafford (LA) combined for over 700 yards passing yards.
Jones channels the ’Niner offense through running back Christian McCaffrey, who touches the ball on 39 percent of offensive plays. While McCaffrey has struggled in the run game this year, he’s still dangerous and the go-to guy in Frisco’s pass game. Stafford runs a more diversified offense for the Rams, he has can lean on the receiver tandem of Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, or the resurgent tight end unit through the air and it appears that Kyren Williams gets full-time run game support from Blake Corum.
The injury report favors the Rams, with only wide receiver Jordan Whittington (back) holding a questionable designation. San Francisco, on the other hand has listed wide receiver Ricky Pearsall (knee) and defensive end Mykel Williams (knee) as out of Sunday’s contest. They also designate seven players as questionable, quarterback Brock Purdy (toe), guard Ben Bartch (ankle), linebackers Dee Winters (knee) and Tatum Bethune (thigh), and defensive linemen Alfred Collins (hip), Kalia Davis (ankle), and Keion White (groin).
