The season — not just the division — will be on the line in Denver

If the Chiefs lose to the Denver Broncos next week, I firmly believe the division is a wrap. Denver would be 9-2, while the Chiefs would fall to 5-5.

But I still believe Kansas City would make the playoffs as a Wild Card, so I can’t agree that the season is on the line. An 11-6 record should be enough to make the playoffs.

If the Chiefs go 10-7, though, things could get very murky — especially without tiebreakers against teams like the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Andy Reid and Brett Veach don’t understand the purpose of a dynamic run game

It’s hard to argue against this take.

Ever since general manager Brett Veach drafted running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire in the first round of 2020, it does feel like Kansas City as a franchise has downplayed the importance of the running back position.

Veach has waited until the seventh round to draft running backs since Edwards-Helaire: Isiah Pacheco in 2022 and Brashard Smith in this past draft.

According to reports, the Chiefs had a fourth-round pick on the table for New York Jets running back Breece Hall, but the Jets wanted a third. Considering the Chiefs’ third-round pick should be late in the round, I would’ve given that up.

Yes… I know the pass rush is a glaring weakness — but I don’t believe there was anyone on the market who would’ve moved the needle. On the flip side, if Kansas City added Hall, I think you’re looking at one of the greatest offenses of all time.

Tyquan Thornton should take snaps from Xavier Worthy and Hollywood Brown

With the Chiefs having their full complement of weapons at receiver, it’s understandable why there’s been a dip in Thornton’s snaps.

But there should be some way to have him involved in some capacity.

When Worthy was injured and Rice was out for his suspension, Thornton was forced into the lineup — and he excelled. Fans and media alike have been missing the deep ball over the last two years. Then — finally — we saw quarterback Patrick Mahomes connecting downfield with Thornton. And then that — and then that went away.

Hopefully, head coach Andy Reid and his staff are just waiting to pull it back out when opponents least expect it.

Matt Nagy needs to go!

Every time the offense struggles, people say the team’s offensive coordinator needs to the fired.

Then when the offense looks amazing, everyone gives all the credit to Reid and Mahomes. It’s a lose-lose situation for Nagy at this point — and it’s unfair.

I’m not here to say Nagy is an offensive mastermind, but it’s pretty wild for him to get all the blame and zero praise. If the offensive line is intact — and they commit to running the ball a little bit — the Kansas City offense should be elite.

Nagy deserves credit for that.
