Other Giant observations
Brian Daboll’s Giants fate isn’t a package deal with Joe Schoen | New York Post
Here we are again, barely past the midpoint of another dreary season, and ire is up, pitchforks are out and skids are getting greased in the hearts and minds of those who want all of them out, now. Begone!
No one with any sort of emotional attachment or vested interest in the Giants should be asked to stay calm or keep the faith. And so, the job security of head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen is once again a necessary conversation.

How a lack of accountability continues to plague Brian Daboll’s Giants | The Athletic
The lack of ownership from the players who are supposed to be leaders shouldn’t be a surprise. That starts at the top, with coach Brian Daboll running a program that rarely demonstrates accountability. Daboll avoids singling anyone out publicly, so he stuck to his script of blaming the “collective” for the team’s struggles on Monday. But as each week passes with no changes to the coaching staff or the lineup, it’s not a surprise there are no changes to the results.
“Nothing is good enough. Offense, defense, kicking game — we all can be better,” Daboll said. “We’re doing everything we can do to try to improve it, and I’m confident we will.”
Most important game remaining: Week 17 vs. the Cowboys. Team co-owner John Mara regularly says he wants to walk off the field after the final game feeling good about the direction of the team. Well, a Week 17 win at home over the rival Cowboys could leave a positive taste in his mouth, especially if rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart finishes strong. Eli Manning and the Giants have long talked about how the final game of his rookie year in 2004 (a come-from-behind win over Dallas) gave him and the team confidence going into the following season. In 2005, they had an 11-5 record and made the playoffs.
Few takeaways, little pride: New York Giants defense’s barren chest | USAToday.com
Their pass rush, which had been predicted to be legendary with the likes of Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux, Dexter Lawrence, and rookie Abdul Carter, has a modest 21 sacks (16th overall) after nine weeks, and Burns has 11 of them, which leads the league.
In addition, the Giants have just six takeaways in their first nine games. That “turnover chest” that they thought they’d be filling up this year is rather barren so far.

2025 Midseason All-Pro Team | PFF
Midseason Offensive Rookie of the Year: RB Cam Skattebo, New York Giants. Skattebo ultimately won’t win this award due to his season-ending injury, but he has been the most impactful offensive rookie through the first half of the season. He earned an 81.0 PFF rushing grade, averaged 3.0 of his 4.1 yards per carry after contact and forced 22 missed tackles on 101 carries.
Jaxson Dart, who set the single-season franchise record of five games with at least one passing and one rushing touchdown, has once again been nominated for Pepsi Zero Sugar Rookie of the Week. The 25th overall pick has been nominated for the award after each of his six starts. In four October games, Dart ranked first among NFL rookies in total touchdowns (10), passing touchdowns (seven) and passer rating (90.0). His three rushing touchdowns, meanwhile, are tied for first.
Jaxson Dart Believes Giants Are ‘Close’ to a ‘Flip’ | SI.com
“When you look at the season, and I know that you can say this for a lot of teams, but we’re really close to having this season kind of flip in a different direction,” Dart said with confidence.“It’s going to take all of us collectively to try to find a way to win one game at a time. We know what that feeling feels like, and we’re going to have to be able to respond and do the same thing next week, and I think that that will help us try to get on a roll.”

External noise — rampant speculation over head coach Brian Daboll’s job security and potential trade deadline maneuvers — falls on deaf ears.
“We try not to pay attention to anything that’s out there,” Runyan insisted, redirecting focus to the Week 10 clash with the Chicago Bears. “We’re worried about this game we got coming up.”

The Browns will trade defensive end Joe Tryon-Shoyinka to the Bears. The Browns will also trade a seventh-round pick to Chicago while the Bears will send back a sixth-round pick. The Bears lost defensive end Dayo Odeyingbo to a torn ACL in Week 9, so the position was an obvious one for the team to address ahead of the deadline.
Tryon-Shoyinka was a Buccaneers first-round pick in 2021 and he signed a one-year deal with the Browns as a free agent this offseason. He had nine tackles in eight appearances for Cleveland and he had 138 tackles, 15 sacks, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery during his time in Tampa.
Johnson was thrilled with the offense’s stellar performance. The unit generated a season-high six touchdowns, the most points (47) in a game since 2018 and the most total yards (576) in a game since 1980.
“There were times this year that I felt like we won in spite of the offense,” Johnson said, “and this was probably the first time I felt like the offense had a big say in us winning that game. And so that was encouraging to me, just for that phase.”
