The 2025 NFL trade deadline is just a day away. With the New York Giants having fallen to 2-7 there is still chatter about the Giants adding a wide receiver to try and help rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. More interesting, though, might be whether or not the Giants subtract anyone from their roster before Tuesday’s 4 p.m. ET deadline.
Offensive lineman Evan Neal and wide receiver Jalin Hyatt, high draft picks by GM Joe Schoen who have never lived up to expectations, remain the names to watch.
Hyatt, who has just three receptions this season and 11 in 22 games over the past two seasons, did not play a snap on offense Sunday vs. the San Francisco 49ers. Meanwhile, Ray-Ray McCloud, elevated from the practice squad, played 52 snaps (91%).
The Giants did use Hyatt as a kickoff returner for the first time in his three-year NFL career. He averaged 27.8 yards on four returns. After the game, Hyatt said he had not returned kickoffs since high school.
Neal was active on Sunday for the first time this season. That was hardly a reward for anything Neal had done during practice. It was simply because the Giants had six injured players ruled out before the game started, and Neal was a healthy body. He did not play a snap on offense or special teams.
In a league where teams always need offensive line help, perhaps someone is willing to gamble that they can get something from the former No. 7 overall pick. Josina Anderson reported that the Giants and Las Vegas Raiders held “exploratory” talks about Neal a couple of weeks ago.
