The Commanders sat in third place of the NFC East ahead of their Sunday Night Football game against the Seahawks, and not only will they stay there after their sixth loss of the season, but the outlook for that changing isn’t good. Not only did Washington fall to 3-6 with Sunday’s loss, they also lost key players in all three phases of the game.
Seeing Jayden Daniels dislocate his elbow (on his non-throwing arm) was extremely gruesome to watch. It was immediately clear that the QB was seriously hurt, and as his teammates took a knee, Zach Ertz and others were emotional for their quarterback — and possibly for the implications of losing him again. Without Daniels on the field, the Commanders will turn, yet again, to Marcus Mariota.
Mariota has already played in five games for Washington this season, and has 56 completions for 639 yards, four touchdowns, and four interceptions. He has a 63.6 completion percentage, and a 81.6 QB rating, and is 1-2 in the three games he started this season.
Not only did the Commanders lose their young quarterback, but Marshon Lattimore suffered a torn ACL in a Buckeye-on-Buckeye play covering Seahawks WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Lattimore has struggled to stay healthy the past couple of years, but up to this point, played in all nine games for Washington, recording 27 total tackles, seven pass breakups, and one interception.
And as if losing leaders on offense and defense wasn’t enough, the Commanders also saw their special teams kick returner and wide receiver Luke McCaffrey break his collarbone.
Washington doesn’t have their bye until Week 12, so they don’t have much time to regroup and figure out how to move forward. At 3-6, their playoff changes are dwindling, and they still have to face the Eagles twice in the final weeks of the season — Weeks 16 and 18.
