After the much-needed bye week, the Los Angeles Rams get back into action on Sunday November 2. It will be the New Orleans Saints that come marching into Inglewood for a SoFi Stadium autumn soiree. Kickoff is set for 1:05 p.m. PST. L.A. is 5-2 and tied atop the NFC West, while “Nawlins is 1-7, at the bottom of the NFC South.
As expected after extended time off the Rams are in good shape injury-wise. Only veteran cornerback Darious Williams will carry a designation, that being doubtful due to a shoulder injury. He’s expected to be back next week. The Saints will have three starters questionable (50-50 to play), running back Alvin Kamara, wide receiver Rashid Shaheed, and cornerback Alontae Taylor.
The Rams newly-acquired cornerback Roger McCreary may be in line for some of Williams’ snaps, even though Williams plays outside and McCreary has become primarily an inside/slot corner over the past couple of seasons. Although he’s only been active in a couple of practices this week, the newest Ram in the corner room brings more of an aggressive, physical presence, something that is missing amongst L.A.’s slighter corners.
When the Rams have the ball, something that bears watching is WR #3. Can Jordan Whittington or even Konata Mumpfield wring some production out of that role? With Tutu Atwell now out for a minimum of four weeks, in theory, both these youngsters will get to divvy up his 25 snaps per game. Or maybe it will be Terrance Ferguson in some sort of WR/TE hybrid role that get those extra snaps. Whether you call them “11”, “12”, or even “13” formations, Ferguson has already shown he can get deep behind opposing defenses.
