Well, at least part of what Miami Dolphins fans have been screaming for —the firing of general manager Chris Grier, oh, sorry, mutual separation —has finally happened. Others also wanted to see head coach Mike McDaniel fired, but at least for now, it seems Mike will survive through this season. Some speculate that whoever the team brings on as the new GM this upcoming offseason will have the opportunity to select their own head coach. Despite it being said, this team is clearly headed into another rebuild. So the question now is which players the new GM will decide should continue with the team going forward.
The first player many fans will want replaced is Tua Tagovailoa, the starting quarterback. Tua was, of course, given the huge extension, and as it stands, the ramifications of getting rid of him in 2026 are prohibitive. His 2025 cap number is $39,181,294. Next season, it goes up to $56,400,000. If cut pre June 1st, his dead cap hit would accelerate to $99,200,000, or an additional $42,800,000. Even a post-June 1st cut costs the team an additional $ 11 million. Most believe that his contract makes him non-tradable (of course, you never know), meaning that Miami will most likely have to hold onto him until 2027 unless they want to just absorb the hit ala Denver with Russell Wilson.
But what about the rest of the current roster? So with that in mind, this evening’s Phinsider Question Of The Day is:
Which players currently on the roster should the Dolphins trade away, either now or at the end of the season, and more importantly, which players should the team hold onto going forward, no matter who comes in to run this team for 2026?
