The Detroit Lions got beat up in more ways than one in their Week 9 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Not only did they lose on the scoreboard, 27-24, but the team went through a myriad of injuries during the game.

Here’s a look at each injury and the latest news on each player.

Christian Mahogany

Mahogany suffered what was officially called a knee injury after his leg whipped around and hit a Vikings player. The Lions’ left guard could not put any weight on his left leg and had to be carted off. After the game, Mahogany was on crutches, and coach Dan Campbell gave an unfortunate update on the second-year player.

“Mahogany’s going to be out for a while, a long time, probably,” Campbell said.

Campbell did provide a little bit of optimism when asked if Mahogany’s injury was season-ending.

“Maybe not that long,” Campbell said. “Maybe not that long, but it’ll be—we’re talking about late December, probably.”

Kayode Awosika stepped in at left guard for Mahogany.

Tate Ratledge

Ratledge suffered a shoulder injury in the second half, ran to the sidelines, and went into the locker room. He did end up returning to the game, though, and finishing it out. However, it’s unclear if this is something he’ll have to deal with moving forward.

“Ratlege came back in, but we’ll see,” Campbell said.

Campbell did point to their depth along the offensive line as something they may have to lean on.

Taylor Decker

The Lions’ left tackle got rolled up on and had to leave the game with a knee injury. He, too, ended up coming back into the game.

”It seemed like a lot of that was on passing situations,” Decker said on the offensive line injuries. “So, there’s just a lot of bodies and a lot of twists and stunts flying around in there on the offensive line. Just a lot of bodies around feet and stuff like that.”

Penei Sewell

Sewell did not miss a play, but he did leave for the locker room after being thrown to the ground and getting to his feet while holding his left shoulder.

Campbell said they’ll have to see how both Decker and Sewell feel coming out of the game later in the week.

“We’ll see where Decker is at. Sewell—how they feel,” Campbell said.

With potentially four starting offensive linemen injured, Campbell said they may have to rely on their reserves, including Dan Skipper, Tristan Colon, Awosika, and Michael Niese (who is on the practice squad).

“We’ve got some guys in the hopper. Skip played today for us. We’ve got (Tristan) Colon, Yode (Awosika). We’ve got (Michael) Niece on vet squad,” Campbell said. “So we’ve got some guys. We’ll do what we have to do. If they fill in, those guys will have to be ready to go.”

Terrion Arnold

Arnold left briefly with a back injury and was listed as questionable to return. He eventually did and was able to finish out the game. There was no post-game update given on Arnold, but he was talking with the media after the game.
