Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …

Ranking the top 10 shutdown cornerbacks of the 2025 NFL season so far – NFL.com

3) QUINYON MITCHELL. From the moment Mitchell stepped onto an NFL field, the Eagles have trusted him against top receivers. Mitchell has matched up with the opposition’s No. 1 wideout on 234 snaps (second-most in NFL) since the start of 2024, including a league-high 103 this season. He held CeeDee Lamb to one reception for 13 yards on nine routes, and Justin Jefferson to one catch for 10 yards on 20 routes. Mitchell has allowed 24 completions on 49 targets this season and is one of just nine cornerbacks with 20+ targets to allow a completion percentage below 50%. He has been a weapon in man coverage for Philadelphia, allowing just 3.7 yards per target and forcing an NFL-high 14 tight windows. He is not afraid to cover receivers downfield, as he did on his first two career interceptions during last year’s postseason, and has fared well in press coverage in 2025, ceding just six completions for 54 yards on 16 targets. [BLG Note: Mitchell only ranks behind Patrick Surtain II and Trent McDuffie.]

Eagles numbers to know during the Bye Week – PE.com

Quinyon Mitchell continues to lock down receivers. Of the 126 players who have been targeted at least 25 times, Quinyon Mitchell ranks No. 6 in completion percentage allowed (45.3%), according to Pro Football Focus. Mitchell was targeted only once against the Giants, and he is one of two players with five passes defended in a game this season, which helped him earn NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors. Mitchell has been a lockdown corner for Philadelphia, traveling with the team’s top wide receiver on occasion. He brings a steady presence to the secondary with the position opposite of him rotating.

Eagles-Jets trade: Philadelphia acquires Michael Carter II – BGN

One would think the Eagles could experiment with starting MC2 in the slot to free up Cooper DeJean to play on the outside. CB2 has been a weakness for the Eagles all season long with neither Adoree’ Jackson, nor Jakorian Bennett, nor Kelee Ringo stepping up to really lock down that starting job. It’s possible that the Eagles could give MC2 a look on the outside. Or maybe he just ends up being a good depth player to have behind DeJean, which wouldn’t be crazy considering the low cost it took to acquire Carter.

Howie Finds a Nickel – Iggles Blitz

There might not be a definitive plan for Carter. Fangio can have him as the backup initially and get a better feel for Carter and how to use him as he practices with the team. No matter how you slice it, this was a good move. Metchie wasn’t needed at WR. The Eagles have Darius Cooper and Xavier Gipson outside of the big three. They are fine at WR. DB was an area of need. You would love to trade for a good outside corner, but I’m not sure how many of those guys are available right now. Carter didn’t cost a key player or pick and makes the Eagles deeper and more versatile. His presence gives Fangio the option to keep DeJean in the slot or move him outside. The Eagles could try Carter outside, but he’s barely played there in his NFL career. Carter is meant for the slot.

Eagles midterm grades by position at the bye week in 2025 – NBCSP

It’s no surprise that in the Eagles’ two losses of the season, Jalen Hurts didn’t play very well. But when you take a step back and look at his season so far, he has played very clean and efficient football. He’s completing over 70% of his passes with a 15-1 TD-to-INT ratio. The highest passer rating Hurts has ever had in a season came in 2024 when he put up a 103.7, so he’s well above that through eight games. And he followed his worst games of the season with two stellar performances against the Vikings and Giants. If Hurts keeps this up, he is going to put himself in the MVP race.

Jalen Hurts MVP candidate, where to play Cooper DeJean, post-bye success: Eight Eagles Thoughts – The Athletic

One other part of this trade worth mentioning is the implicit endorsement of Darius Cooper, an undrafted rookie who excelled this summer and earned a spot on the 53-man roster. Cooper played more snaps than Metchie during the first three weeks of the season before a stint on injured reserve, so it’s not news that he’s ahead of the more pedigreed Metchie. It stood out to me that the Eagles started Cooper’s practice window last Thursday when it appeared A.J. Brown’s playing status was in question. That move was made to have Cooper ready to play, which he did. Cooper does not yet have a catch in the regular season, but he’s now the Eagles’ clear No. 4 wide receiver. And if Brown, DeVonta Smith, or Jahan Dotson misses time, Cooper would be a starter. Not bad for an undrafted rookie from Tarleton State.

The Ringer’s 2025 NFL Midseason All-Rookie Team – The Ringer

Inside Linebacker. Jihaad Campbell, Philadelphia Eagles; Carson Schwesinger, Cleveland Browns. In the modern NFL, you’re more likely to notice linebackers because of the mistakes they make rather than the opportunities they create. This is especially true for younger players. The 2025 class has broken that mold, led by Campbell and Schwesinger. These were the first two off-ball linebackers taken in the draft, and both have had surprising starts to their NFL careers relative to their predraft scouting reports. I had expected Campbell to be more of a downhill thumper type of linebacker, someone much more comfortable playing in the offense’s backfield than dropping back in coverage. In Philadelphia, he’s been more valuable in pass coverage, matching up with tight ends and taking away throwing lanes in the middle of the field.

NFL Week 9 latest buzz, trade deadline questions, news – ESPN

Eagles running back Saquon Barkley is trending positively coming off a minor groin injury. The feeling right now is that he should be in a good spot after the bye week. […] Will Jaelan Phillips or Bradley Chubb get moved? Graziano: I believe one of them will — but which one, I cannot say. I still think the Dolphins want to put a representative product on the field this season. They started 2-6 last year and recovered to win six of their next eight, so they know it’s possible to get back to respectability, even if that doesn’t result in a playoff spot. That said, with Tyreek Hill out for the year and the vibes around the team feeling different than they did a year ago, it’s entirely possible they’ll deal players and look to the future. They’ll have four days following Thursday night’s game against Baltimore to ponder offers ahead of Tuesday’s deadline, and there’s no shortage of teams looking for pass-rush help. Assuming they lose Thursday and drop to 2-7 (and assuming offers for Phillips and/or Chubb are reflective of teams’ level of desperation), it’s going to be tempting for Miami to consider dealing players they don’t imagine being part of their future.

New York Jets Flight Connections 10/30/25 – Gang Green Nation

The New York Jets traded cornerback Michael Carter II and a 2027 seventh round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for wide receiver John Metchie III and a 2027 sixth round pick. The Jets seem to prefer Jarvis Brownlee at slot cornerback. Since Carter can’t play outside cornerback, that made him an expensive and expendable piece. The Jets need help at wide receiver, so maybe Metchie can help there, though his track record in the last four years suggests he’s a long shot to produce much. Moving up from a 7th to a 6th round pick is nice, but depending on how bad the Jets are in 2026, the move up may be smaller than you think.

Carlyne Graham is using her platform to help children as her husband returns to the Eagles – Inquirer

Brandon Graham isn’t the only member of his household who decided to follow his heart while transitioning to the next phase of his life. Carlyne, his wife of more than 10 years, is doing the same. Unlike Brandon, who came out of retirement to return to the Eagles last week, she isn’t strapping on the pads and returning to the football field, though. She is tapping into her roots by giving back to a cause that resonates with her personal journey. In July, Carlyne joined the board of directors for CASA Youth Advocates, the Delaware and Chester County nonprofit that trains volunteers to advocate for children in the child welfare system. “It’s kind of like a full-circle moment,” Carlyne said.

Fantasy Football WR Report: Man, zone coverage performance ahead of NFL Week 9 – PFF

The Cowboys have played zone coverage at a top-10 rate this season but rank in the bottom three in yards allowed per coverage target (9.7), yards allowed per coverage snap (7.58) and first-down-plus-touchdown rate allowed (39.8%) while in zone. The Cardinals’ wide receivers haven’t found high-end success against zone coverage this season, with Marvin Harrison Jr. leading the way in fantasy points per route run — although he ranks just 41st in that regard among 140 qualifying wide receivers. Harrison will draw a great matchup to bring that ranking up in Week 9.

Cowboys trade rumors: Dallas connected to Bengals edge rusher Trey Hendrickson again – Blogging The Boys

Given his situation, Hendrickson would obviously cost less and in that sense may seem more enticing. Crosby is the better player, is under team control, and therefore would require a significantly larger investment from Dallas in a hypothetical trade. While the help in 2025 may ultimately be in vain from an overall team perspective, his general situation is one that could line up nicely with this team’s future window. In other words a Crosby trade would help the present and the future in a way that Hendrickson probably wouldn’t. Last year the Cowboys made a move for Jonathan Mingo right at the deadline, and with all due respect to the player, it felt like the biggest of possible panic moves that the front office could make. He has yet to seriously help the team although they did acquire a team with multiple years of team control to their credit. Trading for Hendrickson would suggest that the Cowboys are going all-in (sorry, but the wording makes sense here) on the 2025 season which could be unwise. The trade deadline is next Tuesday, November 4th.

Commanders vs Seahawks Wednesday Injury Report: Two players miss practice with new injuries – Hogs Haven

The Washington Commanders held a light practice as they prepare for a home game against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday Night Football. This is a short week after the played the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football. Head coach Dan Quinn ruled out WR Terry McLaurin before practice started. He re-injured his quad while laying out for a catch along the sidelines in the 3rd quarter. McLaurin has missed the previous four games due to the injury he suffered in Week 3, but Quinn said it’s not a long-term issue. QB Jayden Daniels had his first full practice since suffering a hamstring injury against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 7. He didn’t play vs the Chiefs, but said he felt good at the end of last week, and could have played if needed. Quinn said the plan is for Daniels to practice fully all week, and then he will be evaluated to return to play.

Giants injury updates: Paulson Adebo still not practicing, despite belief he would – Big Blue View

Safety Jevon Holland and cornerback Paulson Adebo, who both missed Sunday’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles with knee injuries, were expected to return to practice in some fashion on Wednesday. Holland did. Adebo did not. The Giants are short-handed in the secondary. There is no guarantee that Holland and Adebo, starters at safety and cornerback, respectively, will be ready for Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers. Starting cornerback Cor’Dale Flott is in concussion protocol and reserve cornerback Art Green is not practicing on Wednesday due to a hamstring injury.

Packers vs. Panthers Injury Report: Brandon McManus remains limited – Acme Packing Company

The Green Bay Packers held their first practice of the week on Wednesday after a win over the Pittsburgh Steelers over the weekend. In it, three players were non-participants: receiver Dontayvion Wicks (calf), defensive end Lukas Van Ness (foot) and linebacker Nick Niemann (pectoral). Both Wicks and Van Ness were inactive due to injury against the Steelers, while Niemann dropped out of the game with an injury. As of now, the Packers are calling Van Ness’ status day-to-day. [BLG Note: Worth monitoring the Packers’ injury situation before the Eagles play them in Week 10.]

6 most surprising NFL teams of the 2025 season – SB Nation

We have reached — roughly — the halfway point of the 2025 NFL season. We’ll be honest, the 17-game schedule is still taking some getting used to. Today, we are looking at the six teams that have surprised us (complimentary) and really surprised us (derogatory) through eight weeks of the season.
