Should the Lions be buyers, sellers, or stand pat at the trade deadline?

Each week, SB Nation tracks NFL fans’ confidence levels of their favorite teams with their Reacts Surveys posted on their team websites. For Pride of Detroit, we are tasked with gauging Detroit Lions fans’ confidence in the team heading into each game. But this week, we’ve added a second question to the mix:

  1. Are you confident the Lions are headed in the right direction?
  2. What should the Lions do at the NFL trade deadline?

After a bit of an up-and-down season, last week’s convincing win over the Buccaneers in primetime helped confidence jump back up to 98%. Now, after a bye week to further contemplate the direction of this team, it’s time to vote again.

As for our second question — What should the Lions do at the NFL trade deadline? — we’ve provided three answers to choose from:

  • Be buyers
  • Be sellers
  • Stand pat

Making a case to be buyers: We’re almost at the halfway point of the 2025 season, and there are 10 teams (including the Lions) with a winning percentage over 70%, including six in the NFC. That makes for a tight mix of teams competing for playoff seeding, and even the smallest of roster moves could be the difference in gaining an advantage over the competition.

Making a case to be sellers: The Lions are one third-round pick shy of having a draft pick in every round in next year’s NFL draft, so any extra draft capital they can acquire will give general manager Brad Holmes more capital to work with in the offseason. Plus, this year’s depth looks stronger than previous seasons, which could end up making a player expendable.

Making a case to stand pat: Why mess with what’s working? Roster depth has already proven valuable, and they’ll likely need to rely on their depth players again this season, making it important to stay strong throughout the roster. Additionally, with future draft capital already missing, giving up more offseason resources for a player who may only serve as a “rental” or may not be a significant upgrade is probably not worth it.

So, what do you think? Vote in the survey below, sound off in the comments, and check back later in the week (likely Saturday) for the results.

Throughout the year, we ask questions of the most plugged-in Detroit Lions fans and fans across the country. If you want to get these surveys emailed to you weekly, sign up here.
