Indianapolis Colts receiver Michael Pittman Jr. has owned the Tennessee Titans in recent meetings and just made an absurd snag in the end zone for a touchdown to take a double-digit lead as the stampede sporting blue inside Lucas Oil Stadium erupted in amazement.
Just outside of the red zone, Colts quarterback Daniel Jones saw the backside 1-on-1 matchup and fired a pass to the left front pylon. With Titans cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis draped all over Pittman like a backpack, dragging him to the blue turf in the end zone, the Colts sixth-year receiver adjusted like an elite receiver should, but instead of simply securing the ball with both hands, he trapped it. With one arm braced and his rib acting as a landing pad, he pinned the football firmly by using his right arm to trap the football between his right bicep, the arm of Armour-Davis and his own rib to haul in a highlight-reel touchdown to extend the Colts lead to 17-7 in the second quarter.
For coaches emphasizing body control and possession, or content creators crafting social-media clips, this highlight becomes teaching tape in the film room and a GIF candidate.
Prior to Sunday, over his last four meetings against the Titans, Pittman had 22 catches for 232 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Two of those three touchdowns were game-winners. In the first half of Sunday’s rematch, Pittman has six catches on seven targets for 68 receiving yards and a touchdown fans have to see before it winds up atop the SportsCenter Top 10.
