The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced two moves on Monday evening. Here’s an overview:
- CB Parry Nickerson was released from the active roster.
- DE Titus Leo was released from the practice squad.
Let’s sort through this news on a player-by-player basis.
PARRY NICKERSON
These moves being announced together suggests that the Eagles will sign Nickerson to the practice squad. He is not currently subject to waivers as a vested veteran. (Note that all NFL players are subject to waivers AFTER the November 4 trade deadline.)
Nickerson has logged 12 defensive snaps over five games played this season. Vic Fangio has utilized him as the sixth defensive back in their dime packages. He’s also logged 60 special teams snaps.
The Eagles can still make Nickerson available on game day, if they wish to do so, by temporarily elevating him from the practice squad up to three times in the regular season. Otherwise they’ll have to sign him back to the roster.
Nickerson became expendable because the Eagles are getting healthier at cornerback. Jakorian Bennett is expected to be activated from injured reserve after the team’s Week 9 bye. Adoree’ Jackson could also return from the concussion he suffered in Week 7.
The Eagles will need to open multiple roster spots in the near future. In addition to activating Bennett, the Eagles will be looking to return Nolan Smith from injured reserve at some point. The team also needs to activate Brandon Graham from his two-week roster exemption in order for him to play. Not to mention they could also need a spot or two if Howie Roseman is active before the trade deadline.
Now they at least have one opening with Nickerson’s release.

The Eagles originally signed Leo to their practice squad on October 15. Now he’s gone.
