Cincinnati Bengals great Corey Dillon has made his complaints known for a long time about his former team. Whether it was during his tenure as a Bengals player or the 21 years that followed, it’s been well-known that the two sides haven’t always seen eye-to-eye.
However, Dillon’s 2024 induction into the team’s Ring of Honor seemed to melt some of the ice, with Dillon admirably appearing on a number of local shows and podcasts to set the record straight. In these appearances, he showed a still-lingering love for the Bengals, while also appealing to the fan base about his productive, albeit tumultuous time with the franchise.
Sunday’s Week 8 game between Cincinnati and the New York Jets is the one the team decided upon to induct their newest ROH honorees—Dave Lapham and Lemar Parrish. It’s a bit different from the team’s prior inductions, usually being held on a primetime game, as well as their initiative to bring other members for a weekend celebration.
Unfortunately, some wires were apparently crossed between the team, Dillon, and his airline carrier, as a ticket official at LAX reportedly informed the star running back that his flight was not actually preemptively paid by the Bengals, as was seemingly agreed upon. This development caused Dillon to air out his frustrations publicly on X, harkening back to familiar ire between him and the team.
Dillon later followed it up with a tweet regarding a mistyping of his name on an itinerary, as well one with Dillon seemingly believing it was no accident and also angrily requesting that his name be taken down from Paycor Stadium.
However, James Rapien of Sports Illustrated’s All Bengals has confirmed with the team that they had arranged the flight and paid for all Ring of Honor attendees’ flight and lodging.
As of Saturday evening, it’s a little unclear as to how this whole thing is being resolved and if Dillon will be attending the festivities after all. After the relationship has seemingly healed since last year, it would be a shame if a miscommunication did truly sour things between the parties going forward.
