Other Giant observations
Even Amid a Giants Collapse, This Play May Be the Moment Rookie QB Jaxson Dart Arrived | FOX Sports
But as the Giants eye a better future under their newest star, the important part is what happened next. Their rookie quarterback responded not by folding or panicking or forcing bad throws, but by calmly leading a two-minute touchdown drive that should have won the game. Yes, it was aided by two terrible Broncos penalties. But he also completed a remarkable fourth-and-19 pass to Wan’Dale Robinson for a first down. Just four starts into his NFL career, Dart understood the intensity of the moment and didn’t seem fazed by it at all.
“I think that when you’ve been put in high-pressure moments for a lot of your career since you were a kid, you kind of find those moments enjoyable,” he said. “And at the same time, when I watched the best players in the world when I was a kid, that’s what they were doing. I think it’s just exciting to have the ball in your hands in those situations.”

The Giants snapped their eight-game NFC East skid against the Eagles two weeks ago at MetLife Stadium. This is a different challenge for rookie QB Jaxson Dart & Co. in Philadelphia. “If [Dart] didn’t have any haters, he’ll find out where they all live,” WR Darius Slayton said. “He’s about to get introduced to all of them.” Philadelphia has been a house of horrors for the Giants. The last time they won there was in 2013.
Giants’ Cam Skattebo will receive much different welcome vs. Eagles compared to roaring ovation at MSG | New York Post
One place that Skattebo won’t feel love is at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday. Eagles fans are notorious for their hostility.
“I’m a thick-minded, thick-souled, thick-blooded person,” Skattebo said. “I’m excited to see how different it actually is. I’m not too worried about the fan system bothering me in any way…The Knicks game was crazy. We need that atmosphere in our football stadium.”
Giants’ Abdul Carter doing ‘great job’ despite lack of sacks | ESPN.com
This is where the evaluation of Carter gets complicated. He’s getting pressure but doesn’t have a full NFL sack on his resume. Even when it looked like he had one in Sunday’s loss to the Denver Broncos, it was erased by a defensive penalty. Carter has only been credited with a half sack to date. It hasn’t prevented him or the Giants from being content with his play, sacks be damned.
“I don’t focus on stats,” Carter said. “All I can focus on is wins. During the game I care about winning and losing. As long as I’m doing everything I can to help the team win, I’m happy.”
The 10 best NFL player matchups to watch in Week 8 | PFF
New York Giants EDGE Abdul Carter vs. Philadelphia Eagles T Lane Johnson
As a rookie, Carter has broken into pro football and immediately played like a veteran. His 27 pressures are tied for 12th among edge rushers, having produced at a solid 12.4% pass-rush win rate. Johnson’s play hasn’t deteriorated at all, even at age 35. His 83.0 PFF pass-blocking grade slots fifth among tackles to play 300 or more snaps, having given up only six pressures and no sacks on 201 opportunities.
In Week 6, Johnson most often lined up against Carter, although he should also see both Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux given the Giants’ deep edge rusher rotation. Johnson limited the No. 3 overall pick to zero pressures on 15 pass-blocking matchups. The Eagles will hope for similar mitigation as they seek to maintain a passing game that flashed growth in Week 7.
Carl Banks should already be a Hall of Famer
A look at the surprisingly competitive NFC East | ESPN.com
Biggest surprise, good or bad: Brian Burns. Everyone knows he’s a good player. The standout edge rusher, whom the Giants traded for last year, has at least 7.5 sacks in each of his first seven professional seasons. But Burns has taken his game to the next level. He’s currently tied for the NFL lead with nine sacks, is first with 12 tackles for a loss, tied for fifth with 13 QB hits and top 20 among edge rushers in pass rush win rate (19%) and pressure percentage (11.6%). He’s playing at a Defensive Player of the Year level.
Daniel Bellinger looking to seize Giants’ opportunity amid wideout woes | New York Post
Bellinger lost playing time to imported former Pro Bowler Darren Waller in ’23, and the Giants spent a fourth-round pick on tight end Theo Johnson last year. He had seized the starting job with four touchdowns among his 20 catches through the team’s 2-5 start.
“It was tough on a personal level, but I stuck to the fact that the opportunities were going to come, and I just have to be ready for them when they do,” Bellinger said. “I feel like [Johnson and I] complement each other really well…It was important to me, just to help me understand that I’ve gotta be ready for any opportunities when they come, especially in that situation where we’re using both tight ends. It was big for me to understand that this is an opportunity, and I have to make the most of it.”
Friendship of 3 NFL general managers includes hoops, laughs and love for ‘tough dudes’ | The Athletic
Brandon Beane’s first house in Buffalo had a pool and an indoor basketball court that the previous owners installed.
The trades and free-agent deals executed in the Bills’ front office under Beane might have helped Dan Morgan and Joe Schoen on their paths to becoming general managers. But it was on Beane’s halfcourt setup in the basement where the three talent evaluators — all of whom got their start in Carolina — would let off some steam and scratch their competitive itches.
Buy, sell or hold? What every NFL team should do before the 2025 trade deadline | CBSSports.com
Holders: The New York Giants have been an entertaining story through the first half of the season, but they are still just 2-5 despite ascending Jaxson Dart atop the depth chart. Outside of maybe adding a piece that could help them beyond 2025, they shouldn’t be looking at short-term acquisitions at the deadline.

Spadaro: How the Eagles are approaching their rematch with the Giants | PhilaelphiaEagles.com
It was, all agreed then and now, a lesson learned.
“Credit to them for the game they played, no doubt,” wide receiver DeVonta Smith said. “The second time around, you want to switch up some of the things that you did – whether it’s how you release from the line of scrimmage or do the things that you do whenever you line up. They watch our games. They study us, just like we study them. I’m excited about this game. I’m excited to see them again and play our best game and hopefully handle business this time.”
Barkley is averaging 3.3 yards per rushing attempt. Via NBC Sports research, that puts him at 37th out of 38 players with 50 or more carries this season entering Week 8.
“I’m not really a big numbers guy,” Barkley said. “Wasn’t really good at numbers in school, either. People use numbers — what’s the saying, men lie, women lie, numbers don’t? I don’t really get caught up in that. I don’t think it defines me as a player. I still know what I bring to the table. But I do know we have to be more efficient in the running game. That’s something we’re focused on. But at the end of the day, our whole goal is to go 6-2 and win another football game. Whatever that looks like, that’s what matter.”

Eagles LT Jordan Mailata called this rematch “personal” for him after playing “very passive” in what he described as the worst game of his career in Week 6. The Eagles uncharacteristically lost the battle at the point of attack, and they do not plan on history repeating itself. “The message this week is ‘Be physical. … Let’s be physical up front, both sides of the ball, and dominate,’” Mailata said.
