Cincinnati Bengals’ linebacker Logan Wilson has requested a trade. Wilson’s trade request comes after his role was reduced in favor of rookie linebacker Barrett Carter.
Wilson, a third-round draft pick in 2020, has two years remaining on his contract extension, which he signed in 2023, and now, instead of playing a reduced role, he would like to find a chance to play elsewhere.
The Bengals haven’t been known to trade players simply because they ask to be moved, but the Bengals could look to package Wilson in a trade for a player they believe could have more impact on their defense.
If the Bengals were to trade Wilson, here are three teams to watch out for.
Indianapolis Colts
The Colts would make sense for Wilson, as former Bengals defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo has taken the same role in Indianapolis. Former Bengals Germaine Pratt and Mike Hilton have already joined Anarumo, and they could be in the market for another linebacker. After starting for Anarumo in Indy, former Bengals linebacker Joe Bachie was just released, so Wilson could fill his role if he were to be dealt there.
Dallas Cowboys
Dallas has one of the best offenses in the NFL, but it needs real help on defense. With a 3-3-1 record, they are not out of it by any means and could look to make a move before the trade deadline to add to their defense. Wilson has 11 interceptions since entering the NFL in 2020 and has plenty of starting experience that could lead to him being a contributor early in the middle of the Cowboys’ defense.
San Fransisco 49ers
After losing star linebacker Fred Warner to injury, there is a giant hole in San Francisco’s linebacker room. Rookie Nick Martin has been filling that role, but Wilson’s veteran instincts could provide a little more stability for a team that has been hit hard by injuries, but is still trying to keep the ship afloat. Wilson in The Bay makes a good amount of sense, but they would have to make an offer the Bengals couldn’t refuse.
The NFL’s trade deadline is November 4th, so we could see this saga drag on for a couple more weeks.
