NFL Week 8 picks, predictions: Can Giants sweep the Eagles?

The New York Giants try to rebound in NFL Week 8 from Sunday’s Debacle in Denver with a second upset victory in three weeks over the Philadelphia Eagles. Does the Big Blue View staff think the Giants can do it?

Read our picks for that game and the rest of the NFL Week 8 slate below.

Chris Pflum

Can the Giants sweep the Eagles? Yes, I think they can, at least depending on the health of some key players. Winning the second game would be significantly tougher thanks to the presence of Landon Dickerson and Jalen Carter, who are both difference makers on their respective lines.

But sitting here on Thursday morning, I just don’t know about the status of OC John Michael Schmitz (concussion), WR Darius Slayton (hamstring), EDGE Brian Burns (ankle), CB Paulson Adebo (knee), and Jevon Holland (knee). I don’t love the idea of the Giants’ interior offensive line going against Carter with Austin Schlottman, nor do I like the idea of defending the Eagles’ offense without Burns, Adebo, and Holland (or with them limited).

So I just don’t know enough about the status of some of the Giants’ most important players to confidently pick them. But honestly, this game isn’t really about whether they win or lose to me. I want to see how they play the game. I want to see Jaxson Dart continue to improve as a quarterback, and I want to see the Giants’ defense play hard, fast, and sound football from the first whistle to the last. In short, if this team gets up off the mat and gives the Eagles everything they can handle, I’ll count it as a win regardless of the outcome. I’ve been pretty consistent this year: 2025 isn’t about 2025, it’s about 2026 and beyond. And I think this is a great opportunity to see what this team is made of and whether they have the soul of a contender.

Pick: Eagles

Tony DelGenio

I want to pick the Giants to beat the Eagles again and sweep the season series for the first time since 2007. I can’t, though. As impressive as Jaxson Dart and the Giants’ defense were in their first meeting, several things are different this time. There’s evidence that Dart has been less effective in the second halves of his starts, suggesting that opponents start to get a read on his tendencies and find ways to neutralize them. Going up against a Vic Fangio defense so soon after their last meeting is not ideal in this regard. In addition, the Eagles are healthier than they were in their first meeting. Landon Dickerson, Jalen Carter, and Quinyon Mitchell will all be back. The Giants on the other hand may be missing both Paulson Adebo and Jevon Holland. I don’t want to contemplate Tae Banks covering A.J. Brown or Devonta Smith. If Dart plays anywhere near as well as he did in their first meeting, I will be VERY impressed. I don’t think he will, and the Giants’ futility at the Linc will continue for another year.

Pick: Eagles

Nick Falato

The Eagles traveled to Minnesota and defeated the Vikings one week after getting punched in the mouth by the same New York Giants. The Giants’ Week 6 victory over Philadelphia was a statement win, but this quick turnaround for Philadelphia allows them to wash out that bad taste in their mouth and attempt to right the ship with a much healthier roster; Jalen Carter and Quinyon Mitchell will be back in the lineup, as will Landon Dickerson on the offensive line, and the Giants could be without Paulson Adebo and Jevon Holland. The Giants’ defensive secondary could be a massive problem for Shane Bowen. Unfortunately, I have to go with the Eagles.

Pick: Eagles

David Hartman

Every time I think the Giants can’t find a new way to lose a game, they surprise me. Sunday’s loss was in many ways unforgivable. A half dozen NFL teams have needed to replace their opening-day kicker this season. Only one of them did so with a kicker who DID NOT START ON HIS COLLEGE TEAM AS A SENIOR. Of course, the kicker didn’t give up 33 fourth-quarter points, or call a pass play with a two-score lead and five minutes left in the fourth quarter. Or rush only three while trying to play “prevent” defense, which, as the old joke goes, only prevents winning. There is a lot of blame to go around, and I’m sure it was a long flight home for Brian Daboll and Shane Bowen, in particular.

So where does that leave Big Blue? Instead of riding high off back-to-back wins over 2024 playoff teams, they limp into Philly to face a team that wants revenge for the beat down that the Giants gave them just two weeks ago. A.J. Brown is questionable, and if he can’t go that’s a big loss for the Eagles, who finally hit their stride in the passing game against the Vikings last week. They still haven’t unlocked Saquon Barkley, but this could be the week against a defense that is licking its wounds after three brilliant quarters went up in smoke.

I can’t take the Giants to win this week. I just can’t. It’s too hard of a rebound and as much as I like their young quarterback and some of the leaders on the defense, this has become a very tough spot for them.

Sometimes it’s not easy to forget what just happened and turn the page, and I fear this is one of those times.

Pick: Philadelphia by at least a touchdown

James Hickey

The trip to Philadelphia is the beginning of a stretch of six games that in many ways will determine the fate of Brian Daboll. The Giants face four upper echelon NFC teams (Eagles, 49ers, Packers and Lions) as well as two (Bears and Patriots) that have young quarterbacks leading as they make that Year 2 jump. After the meltdown in Denver, the spotlight on Daboll and his coaching staff could not be harsher for the rest of the season.

If they caught the Eagles at the right time two weeks ago, it feels like the opposite this week. The win against the Vikings by the defending Super Bowl champions feeling like they have righted what was wrong with their passing offense, especially with a banged up Giants secondary possible without their two prized offseason signing this year—Paulson Adebo and Jevon Holland. And as opposed to the last meeting, the Philly defense will be bolstered by the return of Jalen Carter and Brandon Graham coming out of retirement.

Wrong place, wrong time for the Giants this week.

Pick: Philadelphia 35 Giants 17

Valentine’s View

The Giants have already beaten the Eagles once this season. It wasn’t a fluke, either. The Giants beat the defending Super Bowl champions soundly two weeks ago.

Can they do it again this Sunday? On the road in a hostile environment? Sure, anything is possible with these new, brash, turning the page on the past Giants. I think we have seen that the past four weeks. The highs and lows of a team learning how to be good.

Will I be shocked if the Giants win on Sunday? No. Will I be shocked if the Giants get their doors blown off by and Eagles team now fully aware of what the Giants can be when they do things right? Absolutely not.

I just can’t be greedy here. There is no way I can bring myself to pick the Giants to win this game.

Pick: Eagles
