Three Keys
1) Stop doing dumb things – We saw Carson Wentz make a couple of really terrible throws against the Eagles last week, and the Vikings aren’t at a point right now where they can afford a whole lot of those sorts of plays. If the Vikings can play relatively mistake-free, they’ll win football games. But if they keep showing the propensity for mistakes that we’ve seen thus far, a quality team like the Chargers can wear them out.
2) Get better in the red zone – The Vikings got the ball into the red zone six times against Philadelphia and came away with just one touchdown. That’s an unacceptable ratio. Whether it’s the playcalling or the execution, Kevin O’Connell’s squad needs to get better at putting the football into the end zone when they’re on the doorstep. Field goals won’t win a lot of football games, no matter how great Will Reichard is.
3) Get after Justin Herbert – Herbert is one of the game’s best quarterbacks, and he has a group of solid weapons to get the football to. The Vikings’ pass rush needs to show up in a big way tonight, because if Herbert is allowed to get comfortable he’ll wind up ripping the defense apart. Fortunately for the Vikings, the Chargers’ offensive line has had their share of issues so far this season. Hopefully that continues tonight.

There you have it, folks! We’ll be starting a brand new Open Thread at the beginning of each quarter, so keep your eyes open for those and keep the discussion moving along accordingly.
Hopefully, in about three hours or so. . .right around bedtime with this late kickoff. . .we’ll be able to do a little celebrating about getting back on the right track.
