A few weeks ago it seemed that the season for the Cincinnati Bengals was headed down the drain. We were starting to talk about draft position and who this team could grab this offseason to potentially make a difference in the 2026-27 season.
Well, those conversations have gone on hold.
We are now a little over two weeks removed from the news that the Bengals were making an inter-division trade for veteran quarterback Joe Flacco. With plenty of questions surrounding the move, you saw some answers in the second half as the team fell in Green Bay in his first start.
Now fast-forward to week three of the Flacco tenure, and things could get rolling with a win over the Jets this Sunday.
Does the eye test match the data, though? According to his early stats, they do.
Greg Harvey of OptaStats put out a tweet a few days ago that points to Flacco putting up numbers through two starts that no QB in NFL HISTORY has accomplished.
At the moment, Flacco has totaled 561 yards with a 65.2 pass completion percentage. He is also averaging 6.1 yards per pass while adding five touchdowns through the two starts.
When Joe Burrow went down with his toe injury, all looked bleak. If Flacco can continue this level of QB play, we could see the Bengals fighting for a playoff berth and a chance to see Burrow back on the field this season.
