Giants could make 2025 playoff push despite historic ‘gag job’, insider says | NJ.com
On ‘The Adam Schefter Podcast’ released Tuesday, Schefter was bullish on the Giants despite the disappointing loss.
“I got to tell you something, they would be a player for the playoff race,” Schefter said. “At 2-5, they still might be able to do it. These guys have enough swag with these rookies, Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo, that they could make a playoff push. But now we’re going to remember this as one of the great gag jobs in NFL history and who’s going to be held accountable for it over time. It’s just a very disappointing loss for a team that I think is on the fringes of being really good. By the way, they’re doing it without Malik Nabers, who I would say is probably their best player. Can you imagine this team with Malik Nabers? Wow.”

Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio offered high praise for the Giants’ new field general ahead of their Week 8 rematch in Philadelphia on Sunday.
“One lesson is learned and the teams that need quarterbacks that bypass them, they’re going to regret that. Obviously very athletic, an elite scrambler,” Fangio told reporters on Tuesday. “I think their coaches have done a great job with him. They’ve developed the offense around him, throws the ball very well, intermediate and deep, and he’s a good player.”
On Tuesday, NFL executive vice president Jeff Miller said at a press conference that the investigation is ongoing and that they try to work with the NFLPA to “expedite” the process. Miller did not say when he thought the investigation would conclude, but that he feels it is “making progress.”
“I think we’ll let the investigation play out before we reach all the conclusions that are important,” Miller said, via Tom Rock of Newsday. “And when we do, as we’ve always been when we have looked at these with the players association, we’ll share our findings.”

Unsung nonstarter/role player: S Dane Belton. The fourth-year safety gets used in certain weekly packages on defense and has become a special teams standout. Belton is tied for second in the NFL with 12 special teams tackles. He also forced a fumble last week on defense and made a key fourth-down tackle near the goal line against the Broncos while filling in for injured starter Jevon Holland. Belton has continuously produced game-changing plays when given the opportunity on defense throughout his career.

The New York Giants are going to turn the page, much like they all say they do the day after games, win or lose, memorable victories and historic collapses leading to defeat alike.
This one in Denver on Sunday afternoon was different, however.
When the most apt comparison to the feeling of dread that spread throughout the losing locker room following the Giants’ 33-32 setback to the Broncos involves DeSean Jackson, Matt Dodge and harkens back to Joe Piscarcik, the devastation can’t be overstated.

While defensive coordinator Shane Bowen is under fire for his passive approach to the final seconds, offensive coordinator Mike Kafka and Daboll might have gotten too aggressive at the end of the game.
For starters, the Giants tried — and failed — to get a two-point conversion when leading 19-0. Leading 26-16 and facing third-and-5 at the Giants 35-yard line with 4:56 remaining, the brain trust called a pass instead of a run that — worst-case scenario — likely would’ve led to the Broncos calling their third consecutive (and final) timeout before a field-position-changing punt.

It’s remarkable how often the Giants’ kicker management has cost them over the past three seasons. McAtamney’s two missed extra points Sunday were enormous in a one-point loss. He’ll almost certainly get cut this week and likely replaced by Koo, who team brass has viewed as the inferior option, or Gano if he’s ready to return.
It will be a typical reactionary move by this regime. But there needs to be greater scrutiny on the decision to rely on McAtamney in the critical role when there was clearly a lack of trust in the kicker…It seems the Giants’ plan was to roll with a kicker they lacked confidence in for as long as possible. That plan crashed and burned with McAtamney’s crucial misses in Denver.
Tom Coughlin, who led the Giants to two Super Bowl titles, is among 12 coaches who have moved one step closer to the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2026. The Hall of Fame’s Coach Blue-Ribbon Committee recently narrowed a list down from 15 nominees and will next cast another ballot later this month to reduce the list to nine semifinalists. Those results will be announced in early November.
Dan Reeves, who was a head coach for 23 consecutive seasons (including four with the Giants) and Bill Arnsparger, a longtime defensive coordinator in the NFL and a former Giants head coach (1974-76), are also on the list of 12.

After retiring in March, the former Philadelphia Eagles defensive end finalized a contract to rejoin the team, the Eagles announced Tuesday. The move comes after Za’Darius Smith’s sudden retirement announcement earlier this month.
“I’m coming back, baby,” Graham said. “No expectations. I’m excited just to get after it. Of course, I believe in the team. That’s a big part of it, too. I think they got everything they need. Just want to add more value.”

A recurring theme throughout the Eagles’ season had been the inconsistency of their passing attack, but they answered those concerns in emphatic fashion Sunday by pushing the ball downfield. On throws of 20-plus yards, Hurts earned a near-perfect 99.9 passing grade with four big-time throws.
This version of the Eagles’ passing offense is at its best when Hurts is decisive, attacking the intermediate and deep areas of the field. Entering the game, Hurts’ time to throw was tied for the third highest in the NFL at 3.15 seconds. Before Sunday, he earned a 54.2 passing grade on throws released after three seconds, compared to a 77.3 grade on passes thrown in under three seconds.

Unsung nonstarter/role player: DT Moro Ojomo. A seventh-round pick in the 2023 draft out of Texas, Ojomo tends to get second billing at defensive tackle behind the Georgia duo of Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis. But Ojomo has been key in making up for the departure of Milton Williams to the Patriots this offseason. He has three sacks, five QB hits and three tackles for loss. “He’s a good football player. You need to stop being surprised by that,” defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said earlier this season.
