With both Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel and general manager Chris Grier continuing to feel their seats get hotter by the day, and fans somewhere between total uproar and just apathy at this point, I asked the following questions last week:
This evening’s Phinsider Question of the Day is: Who would you like to see potentially replace McDaniel and or Grier, or are you someone who wants to keep either or both? There are many candidates who could take over this organization, both in the front office and on the field. Among the rumored possibilities, which ones would you prefer? Or do you have a unique candidate in mind for either position that you have yet to see discussed?

jmworacle wants the next HC to select his own GM to shape their future vision of the team.
McDaniel’s replacement Eric Bienemy or Bruce Arians. Let them choose the GM.
heatforlife disagrees with your assessment!
somebody here posted lynch 5x worse than grier.must have been griers son
DolphinBrasil wants the Ravens to cut Harbaugh loose and Marino as GM. I still recall Marino being appointed Senior VP of football operations in 2004, only to resign shortly after, as he didn’t want to handle the workload that conflicted with his family time. Wonder if he is now down to work a 24/7/365 kind of gig.
GM Dan Marino
Coach John Harbaugh
dedstrk wants a GM who will not be available unless we talk the SF 49ers into trading him to us.
John Lynch and whomever he wants as coach. I know that’s not happening. So, Chris Shula, Ron Rivera, Gruden in that order. What I really want, if we can’t get Lynch or the Tampa GM even, is get Saban back as pres of football operations and tell him to assemble a team.
heatforlife wants a talking head to come in and take over.
riddick great on tv prob makes millions doing that .less stress than gm.unless he wants to be a gm espn pays nice salaries
SlayerNation1 says he’s not just a talking head!
Riddick, whose resume includes player and scouting, He isn’t just a talking head
HC is difficult. Experienced candidates seem like a better choice to effect a sea change of culture and flesh out a staff.
Any should be an upgrade from Rexy, Gruden, McCarthy.
Harbaugh or even McDermott would be top of list if available. Tomlin would be an upgrade of course, He just seems to be way too OK with 9-8 mediocrity.
HC needs to be on a very delineated expectation schedule.
You will be unlikely to get the best GM or HC candidate if any combo of Grier/Mikey/Tua remain.
They are all major turn offs.
twinssdfan is just one of many who are interested in the defensive coordinator and the grandson of the late, great Don Shula.
Agnew – GM
Shula – HC
MiamiItaliano has a few ideas as well and does not think they need both of those assistant GMs
Either the Broncos’ Joe Lombardi or the Rams’ Chris Shula as head coach. Eagles’ assistant GM Joe Ferrari or one of the Buccaneers’ assistant GM’s (yes there’s two) Mike Greenberg / Rob McCartney as GM
Spok507 doesn’t conduct GM research, but believes it’s clear that any Shula belongs in Miami.
I have no idea who would be a good GM — that’s not something I research a lot. 🙂
But as for a coach, I know having a first time HC has not worked out for us at all, but I do feel there are guys out there who can be innovative, motivating and still move the franchise into the future without trying to rely on a re-tread that has already piqued. That being said, I’d like to see the next coach of the Dolphins be Chris Shula. It’s for more than just his name. I think he’s been a very reliable, innovative DC for the Rams. The players seem to like and respect him, and the Rams defense, in my opinion, is playing above their means. Maybe coming to Miami with the cultural problems would be a lot, but his name alone would be a story a lot of players would want to be a part of, which could change the type of players we attract. There are some hard-working, reliable players on this team. It’s become obvious, tho, that the leadership is what is questionable. I don’t think someone with a resume and legacy like Shula would have a problem in that regard. I wouldn’t have a problem with Gruden, but I would rather roll the dice (again) with a younger, newer football mind that can maybe adapt to the changing game than one who still thinks like it’s 2015. If you keep rolling the dice, odds are at some point you have to win.
Left Shark wants a GM that can manage everything independent of the owner.
IMO it all starts with the right GM. He must be independent from Ross and his buddies influence and given full control. Someone well connected with the league. Let him pick the coach, staff and get new scouts.
When the Dolphins were at their best, they were a tough, physical team that beat other teams up. A team that could perform in all weather, etc. That should be the model and not this fragile flash gimmick nonsense.
