The Detroit Lions have put the rest of the NFC on notice by taking down the top team in the conference on Monday, and it was enough to keep them knocking on the door to the top spot themselves. For now, though, they remain just out of the division lead but they have moved up to the top wild card spot for now.
It should be noted that the Lions are the first team in the NFC North to get to five wins. They absolutely still control their own destiny.
The Green Bay Packers won on Sunday to secure the top spot in the division for another week. They also moved up to the top spot in the conference thanks to Detroit’s win. YOU’RE WELCOME!
The Chicago Bears are on a roll, winning four straight with their bye sandwiched in. They haven’t lost in more than a month. That loss was to the Lions, in case you forgot.
The Minnesota Vikings fell to the Philadelphia Eagles in a game that wasn’t as close as the final score. They are even at 3-3.
1. Green Bay Packers (4-1-1)
2. Detroit Lions (5-2)
3. Chicago Bears (4-2)
Minnesota Vikings (3-3)
NFC playoff standings during Week 7
After the Packers in the top spot, it gets a little convoluted at 5-2. First the 49ers and Rams are pit against each other with San Francisco emerging from the NFC West. Then their 5-1 NFC record is better than Philadelphia and Tampa Bay. The Eagles are next thanks to their win over the Buccaneers, which sets the top four spots with the division leaders.
Then the Lions and Rams are both 5-2, but the Lions’ 2-1 NFC record is better than the 0-2 NFC Rams. So the Lions own the top wild card spot.
If the Seahawks win on Monday night, they would move past Los Angeles but can’t beat the Lions, so Detroit is locked in to the fifth spot until Week 8 Sunday.
