The narrative, which is reborn almost every time a player is injured while playing at MetLife Stadium, is that the playing surface used by the New York Giants and New York Jets is a dangerous one that causes injuries.
Jeff Miller of the NFL says that narrative is inaccurate.
“MetLife Stadium had one of the lowest injury rates, not just as a synthetic, but across the league last year,” Miller said Tuesday during the fall NFL owner’s meetings. “As far as how MetLife is playing, it’s playing really well and it has been for a while.”
Miller, whose title is Executive Vice President, Communications, Public Affairs and Policy; Health and Safety, was part of a tour recently given to media members of the various health and safety features, including the field surface, given to media members at MetLife Stadium.
Big Blue View was part of that tour, including a demonstration of the equipment used at all NFL stadium to monitor and measure the performance of both grass and synthetic surfaces.
It is clear that players had issues with the previous surface at MetLife Stadium. The current surface, though, ranks as one of the league’s best-performing.
