The Las Vegas Raiders are playing at the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. Here is everything to need to know about the game:
First quarter
The Raiders got the ball first, after Kansas City deferred, they started at their own 40, but had to punt after a Jackson Powers-Johnson hold negated a first down on a pass from Geno Smith to rookie Dont’e Thornton. It put them in a third and 17 hole.
Raiders’ killer, Kansas City tight end Travis Kelce, got lost in the Raiders’ defense and broke loose for a 44-yard reception into Las Vegas territory. It was on first down and 20.
Then, Raiders’ cornerback Kyu Blu Kelly was called for holding. on the next play, Chiefs’ wide receiver Rashee Rice scored on his first drive of the season to give the Chiefs a 7-0 lead with 5:58 to go in the quarter. The Chiefs went 92 yards in nine plays on the drive.
The Raiders were going to punt but the Chiefs were called for illegal contact to extend the drive. But the drive stalled.
Patrick Mahomes started out nine of 10 for 113 yards Sunday.
Chiefs lead 7-0 at the end of the first quarter.
Second quarter:
The Chiefs glided down the field on a 17-play, 84-yard drive that culminated on an 84-yard touchdown pass from Mahomes to Hollywood Brown to take a 14-0 lead with 9:17 to go in the half.
The Raiders have had three drives and they’ve punted three times. They had 45 yards on 13 plays on those three drives.
At the two-minute warning, the Chiefs have outgained the Raiders 246 yards to 45 yards . They had 17 first downs. The Raiders had two.
Maxx Crosby was being looked at on the bench.
Jamal Adams sacked Mahomes and Jonah Laulu almost had an interception on the Chiefs’ last drive, but the Chiefs went down as scored anyway as Rice scored his second touchdown of the game to make it 21-0 with 10 seconds to go in the half. The Chiefs had had three long touchdown drives on all of their possessions.
The Chiefs had 21 first downs and 275 yards in the first half. The Raiders had 2 first downs and 51 yards. The Raiders had the ball for 9:21 in the first half.
Third quarter:

The Chiefs went down the field and scored again. Four possessions, four scores. 28-0. Goodness gracious.
The Raiders punted on their fourth straight possession.
Hey, the Chiefs didn’t score a touchdown. Had to settle for a field goal to take a 31-0 lead.
This game is so out of hand, Gardner Minshew is playing in the third quarter and Mahomes is healthy.
31-0 Chiefs after three quarters.
Fourth quarter:
Guard Jackson Powers-Johnson struggled all game and was replaced by Alex Cappa.
The Raiders have finally crossed mid-field.
Both starting quarterbacks are out. Kenny Pickett is now playing for Geno Smith. Oh, Pickett lost a fumble on the first snap.
How is this for ridiculous: The Chiefs were in victory formation with 2:36 remaining in the game and the Raiders had all three timeouts and the two-minute warning. Carroll didn’t even bother to extend the game. This is an all-time worst moment for a franchise with plenty of them in recent memory.
Final score:
Chiefs 31, Raiders 0.
Now that the game is over, let’s take a look at the key aspects:
Team records: The Las Vegas Raiders are 2-5. The Kansas City Chiefs are 4-3
What the loss means for the Raiders:
It’s the biggest shutout in the history of the Raiders-Chiefs series. This is bad. The Raiders are, by far, the worst team in the AFC West. They have now lost eight straight division games dating back to the start of last season. The Raiders are 1-3 on the road this season (all 10 a.m. PT starts) and have been outscored by a total of 112-30 in three straight road losses. They have been beaten by double digits in four games this season. They have not improved under Pete Carroll.
Turning point of the game:
When the team busses arrived at the stadium. This was a boat race from the beginning.
Injury report:
Defensive tackle Adam Butler hurt his back in pre-game warmups and did not play. Star defensive end Maxx Crosby hurt his knee and back and didn’t play in the second half. That is something to monitor. Safety Isaiah Pola-Mao was helped off the field in the fourth quarter.
What’s next for the Raiders:
The Raiders have their bye next week and then return home in Week 9 to host the 4-3 Jacksonville Jaguars on Nov. 2. Kickoff is at 1:05 p.m. PT.
