Miami Dolphins tight end Darren Waller played just 16 snaps for the Miami Dolphins on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns before exiting the game with a pectoral muscle injury. He did not return to play during that contest.
On Monday afternoon, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter released a report stating Waller avoided major injury and is just suffering from a pectoral strain — an injury that will see Miami’s tight end as “week to week” in regards to his return to play timeline.
Waller was acquired this offseason via trade after the Dolphins sent their 2024 Pro-Bowl tight end Jonnu Smith to the Pittsburgh Steelers in a separate deal that also included former All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey and a late-round pick swap. Waller suffered a quad injury during the offseason — an injury that caused him to miss Miami’s first three games of the 2025 season.
In the three games that Waller played after returning from injury prior to Sunday’s catchless showing, the 33-year-old tallied 11 receptions for 117 yards and four touchdowns — at least one score in each game played.
If Waller is forced to miss time, the Dolphins will once again revert back to a tight end room headed by former undrafted free agent, Julian Hill.
