The Eagles offense was finally looking pretty good, and was spreading the ball around well, but then before halftime against the Vikings, we learned that Cam Jurgens was questionable to return due to a knee injury. Jurgens was one of three Eagles to be sidelined in the first half against the Vikings — along with Azeez Ojulari and Jeremiah Trotter Jr. —, and Brett Toth took over at center in his place.
Shortly after halftime, it was reported by sideline reporter for 94WIP Devan Kaney, that all three Eagles were officially ruled out and won’t return against the Vikings.
Toth has stepped in for Landon Dickerson earlier in the season, but wasn’t able to protect Jalen Hurts as well as you might expect someone who is coached by Jeff Stoutland. Still, the Eagles have another game before their Week 9 bye, and injuries are starting to stack up so they’ll need all guys to step up. Even if Jurgens is able to return next week against the Giants, the number of injuries throughout the offensive line is concerning for where we are in the season.
Jurgens previously admitted that he was still working his way to full health following his back injury last season. It was getting markedly better, but to think he was fully healthy even before the knee injury, is naive. At this point, the group just needs to make it to the bye week and got real rest and recovery time before what is hopefully a long end to the season.
