2 potential Giants trade targets might be off the market

It might be time to pump the brakes on the idea that the New York Giants will be acquiring wide receiver help for rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart at the Nov. 4 NFL trade deadline. Recent reports are splashing at least some cold water on the idea that the Giants are aggressively seeking a receiver trade.

Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported on Saturday that “the Giants aren’t aggressively working the phones to add talent at receiver right now.” That is a far cry from a recent report that the Giants were “big game hunting” at wide receiver.

There is also the not-so-small matter of which wide receivers are actually available.

There has been plenty of speculation that things are hot and heavy between the Giants and reeling Miami Dolphins in regards to a potential deal for wide receiver Jaylen Waddle.

Waddle, 27, would be a tremendous get for Giants GM Joe Schoen. He had 1,000-yard receiving seasons in his first three years in the NFL, and his contract runs through the 2028 season. As BBV’s Nick Falato recently wrote, “A long-term combination of [Malik] Nabers and Waddle would be dynamic.

Problem is, Waddle might not actually be available. NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport is reporting that “Miami has no interest in trading” Waddle.

Similarly, Rapoport is reporting that the Las Vegas Raiders have made no outgoing calls about wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, and that “it’s not a given the organization agrees to a trade that hurts them in the present.”

We will find out over the next couple of weeks if Schoen has something up his sleeve, but these reports indicate the trade deadline might be quieter than Giants fans would like.
