When it became abundantly clear that Jake Browning wasn’t the answer, the Cincinnati Bengals hopped on the phones.
According to Erich Richter of The New York Post, the Bengals made calls about a number of quarterbacks, one of whom was the starting QB for the Las Vegas Raiders when Cincinnati ended a decades-long postseason losing streak.
“The former Saints quarterback who surprisingly retired this past offseason was among the players that the Bengals attempted to sign in the last few weeks, Derek’s brother, David Carr, revealed,” wrote Richter.
Carr is still only 34, and he had a QB rating of 101.0 last year in 10 games with the New Orleans Saints.
But, for whatever reason, he wasn’t ready to come out of retirement to throw to Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.
Instead, the Bengals ended up with Joe Flacco, who looked pretty sharp against the Green Bay Packers in his debut with Cincinnati last Sunday.
Up next, Flacco and the Bengals will try to end a four-game losing streak by beating the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday Night Football.
